BURNING BUILDINGS

If you saw a building filled with people you care about in flames, what would you do? Would you sit idly by chatting with the people in the building? Wouldn't you rush in and grab people by the hand or by the collar and lead or drag them out of the building?


Our nation is falling. I don't think anyone has any doubt about that. Only the hardest won optimist with little experience over the past 50 years would believe that things are getting better, or that they will in the future be better if man has anything to do with its outcome.

The world is not the only building that is burning. So is the city called the church (Mat 5:14; Rev 3:12-13; Rev 21:1-2; Rev 22:19; Heb 11:9-10, 13-16; 12:22-23; 13:11-14; Gal 4:26, 31). The church is made up of many buildings called denominations. Yet each of these buildings, regardless of how hard we try to deny it, comprise the city of God. Some parts of the city might be on the wrong side of the tracks. Some parts of the city we might even regard as slums and the red light district they are so far from what the city is supposed to be, and that it claims to be. But none the less, these elements are part of the city.

As with any city where slums are allowed to exist and fester, it spreads to the rest of the city. In the Bible this process would be called leavening. A little leaven leavens the whole loaf. Or as the old timers would say, one bad apple spoils the barrel. It is a tendency of mankind to fall to its lowest level. The worse that we have ever been has a tendency to try and pull us back to that station, and even farther once the process has begun. We all know this. What we do, especially if it is wrong, we want more of. If it's food we shouldn't have, the more we try to stay away from that food, the more we eat of it. If it's an area of town (or now the web) where we know we shouldn't go, the more drawn we are to that location. It's in our nature, and it has been since our first ancestors. And the more we try to deny that we have such a nature, the more blind we become to our sinful nature, and the more power it wields over us.


Those of us in our own denomination like to think that we, and those we associate with, are above such things. We wish to believe, and so we are told by those in the pulpit, that we are a part of the church that is fireproof, that our building will always stand. We like to believe that there will be no falling away into false doctrine by our church. Yet, as we look around us, if we have eyes with which to see, we are witnessing the strongest of the denominations, and the longest standing buildings, crumble before our eyes.

And this is only the beginning (Rev 3:15-18).


Anybody of any age at all can, if they will look, see that their church is changing. The clothes worn by the pastor and the congregation has changed. There is no more respect shown to the Lord on the Lords day. You might even notice that there is no more Bibles carried with the congregates (This is not true of all -- yet). You might even find that Bible readings are not out of the Bible any more, but rather off a small slip of paper, and in a translation that you will be hard pressed to find in any Bible in anyone's home. Music is no longer the same, and is very likely performed by a rock band in worn blue jeans rather than a choir in robes. The service may very likely by centered around the youngsters in the form of entertainment rather than directed toward those of maturity wherein the youth may learn what is expected of them and given examples of what a mature Christian should be like. You may notice that Communion is a rather dry ceremony taken with less regard than the coffee and donuts offered in the lobby, rather than the heart-felt experience you knew it to be in your youth. Men are likely to be wearing hats in the service, and women cut-off jeans, or maybe even be the one standing behind the pulpit (1Cor 11:4-7, 1Tim 2:12) (Please keep in mind: It's change, and the direction of that change I'm wanting you to focus your attention on.) Baptism may very likely be a very dry affair, and weather there is full baptism or not, you may notice that there is no more confession of sins nor a call to repentance as there once was (Mat 3:2, 6; Acts 2:38).


What we see is just the beginning. The direction we are taking is the direction we will continue to go, and the direction we will end up.

Notice also, if you will, that regardless of which way the church goes as it takes its gradual spiral into the depths, that those members of that church that is heading in a direction they know it shouldn't go, remain loyal to that church. They just incorporate the attitudes, the doctrines, and the lack of formality into their own field of acceptance. And once this occurs, then the next move toward oblivion is just that much easier to accept and defend.

The city is burning. When the city of Jerusalem fell in 70 AD the people, rather than run from the city, hid themselves in the Temple. They hid themselves in the very location that God was in the process of destroying because it had been so badly corrupted. People no longer were worshiping God in the city and in the Temple, they were worshiping the Temple and destroying God and everything He stood for.

This is happening today. Jesus warned the citizens and especially the leaders, the shepherds, the priests, the religious leaders that this would happen, but they refused to listen. Through the prophets of old and through John the Revelator we are given warnings about what is happening to the church. And we are told what will happen if we remain a part of the city, and accept its faith in itself rather than search out God and hear what He has to tell us.

But we do not listen to God. We create fairy tales around the warnings we are given, and we point the finger at other groups of people and say the warnings are for them and not for us.


Jesus said:


46The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. 49I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? 50But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! 51Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (Luke 12:)


Note how this parable is spoken to the "servants," not to the world. It is for you, not for that unbeliever who is condemned already. If you have taken on the name of Christian, then you are a servant, and it is up to you to fulfill your duty. And how might you learn what your duty is unless you read the manual and listen to the True Shepherd rather than to those who claim to be shepherds yet deny what the Shepherd has said?

Take notice of what happens to those servants who do not do as they are told to do.

Jesus came to bring division to the "house." The church is the house Jesus is interested in. The Christian is the dwelling place of God, the Temple, and the Tabernacle (Heb 3:6; Rom 8:9; 2Peter 1:13-14; John 2:19-21; 1Cor 3:16-17). The body of Christ comprises the City of God (Rev 3:12-13; 21:2; Mat 5:14-16). We are each living stones of that city (1Peter 2:2-8; 1Cor 3:11-13; Rev 21:9-27; Mal 3:16-18; Rev 20:11-12). And only perfect stones will be used to build the City of God, and all others will be destroyed (John 17:22-23; Mat 13:47-50).

The city is certainly divided. The city is at one another's throats claiming that their building is righteous and all others are doomed to burn in hell fore ever. Is this the love that Jesus said that all who follow Him will have? If I believe a person, especially a brother or a sister who is going astray, will burn, wouldn't I be doing everything I can to prevent it? If a family member was harming themselves with improper eating or lack of exercise or bad company, wouldn't you do everything you can, in tears, to try to correct the problem? Wouldn't you make any sacrifice to set them on the right road again? If this is so, then what does it say of a person who can sit back and watch a person head for the fires, while sipping their soft drink, and pointing an accusing finger?


Jesus said that He came to bring fire on this earth. When we read Revelation, we can see just what He meant. If we think this couldn't mean on His own church that has gone astray, you had better read what He said about His City Jerusalem and the Temple He claimed to be the Father's (John 2:16; Luke 13:34-35; Mat 24:1-2). Jesus is not speaking about some far off city in Iraq that He has had no dealings with, and that God even used to bless the Jews for 70 years. No, He's referring to the City He built with His own blood that has turned its back on Him, just as did the Jerusalem of His time, a nation God brought out of Egypt.


The city is now smoldering. It is already kindled. You know this if you've smelled the smoke rising from the kindling around us. Now, the question is, what are you going to do about it?


1In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 2Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. 4And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. (Isaiah 6: See Rev chapter 4)


7How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. 8Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. (Rev 18:)


I'm a fireman. I smell smoke and see a few flames. Some rooms are burning already (see "No Details, Please). I'm not screaming to get out yet, but I am hollering a warning and spraying the building with water (my website and forwards). I have tears in my eyes and in my heart because I can see what is to come, and no one is listening. They all go about their daily routines, fiddling as the city burns (Rom 3:9-18; Micah 7:4-6; Mat 10:34-40).

I am a Watchman on the wall (2Cor 2:2-4; Ezek 33:1-9). It is my shift on the wall, and I see the smoke, and I'm sending out a warning blast on the shofar.


You are a fireman (Mark 13:34-36; 16:15; Mat 10:27; John 8:12; Mat 5:14-16). You are given the job to be an example of what a Christian is to be. How are you performing as a servant? We are given a job, as a servant, to preach the message to the unsaved world. As we have seen, much of that unsaved world is in the churches playing church. We are not to point a finger at them, but to warn them of their destination if they continue on the path they are on.


The Church, the Body of Christ is not those in the city of denominations. Jesus, to talk to the people had to leave the city (Mark 1:45; John 7:1). Jesus said the city, Jerusalem, is where He and the prophets were rejected and killed (Luke 13:33). When Jesus wanted to be close to the Father, He did not enter into the Temple where we would assume He would find the closeness of the Father, instead He left the city and went to a garden on a mountain outside the city (John 18:1-2; Mat 26:36-38).

When in the wilderness, The Holy Spirit (Shekinah Glory) did not enter the Tabernacle until it was absolutely perfect, every piece in place according to the plan that God had given Moses on the Mount. When Solomon built the Temple, every stone had be exactly as planed by God (Ex 40:16, 33-35; 2Chron 5:1-2; 1Kings 8:10-11). God will not be a part of anything that is less than perfect (Mat 5:48; Rev 3:1-6).

Before the Tabernacle was fully complete, if there was any problem with the Tabernacle whatever, the Glory Cloud left the camp and stood a ways off where He spoke with Moses.


COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE


We are told to get out of the city before it burns (Rev 18:4-5). Jesus gave this same warning to those Jews living in His time because of the forthcoming doom called on that city (Luke 21:20-22).


This creates a problem in our minds. How can we be a part of the Body, and yet not attend church? How can we help the body and be an outsider?

There are some churches that have read and understood this Scripture, but they have gone no farther into their understanding than seeing the need to not be a part of the dying member (church) of the Body. Yes, we are to come out of the city. That is, we are to separate ourselves from the doctrines which hold down the body and separates the body of Christ. It is the doctrines of the churches that comprises the Babylonian system, not the body of believers themselves. True, there are a great many tag-a-longs in the churches who are there for the coffee, donuts, entertainment, and the sociabilities. And there are many tares and wolves. But there are also true believers as well, desiring to serve the Lord as they are called to do. However, in far too many cases, these true believers are handicapped because they are not told to follow the Holy Spirit and to serve the Lord, but rather they are told to listen to the preacher and serve the church, the denomination. These need a light to show them the way. They need a voice as well. It is impossible for those who are led by the Spirit, and who have been given the Truth to speak anything that is outside or contrary to the doctrine of the denomination that they are under. To do so is to be looked upon as a heretic and to be cast out of the church denomination.

Some, such as myself, are called to remain outside the denominations in order to have a voice. That is my calling. Not everyone has such a calling, and probably there are very few of us who do have such a calling. The chances are you have a different calling, and a different gift.

In the body during the time of the Apostles many people are mentioned who had callings to serve the body in different ways. There were the prophets (Acts 2:15-17; 21:9), and those who served the Saints (1Tim 5:9-10), and there were preachers and elders and teachers (Eph 4:11-12). These were not called to be outside the church body, even though they were separated from the doctrines that separated the body. In fact Paul made some considerable effort to prevent the body from separating as it has (Rom 16:17-18; 1Cor 1:10; 3:1-4; 11:17-19).

Even though the Temple, which was the established denomination of the day, was terribly corrupt, the Jew and the Christian was not called to remain outside the Temple. In fact Jesus Himself said to listen to and follow those leaders who eventually killed Him (Mat 23:1-3). Paul did the same (Heb 13:17). And to demonstrate this, the apostles continued to participate in the Jewish practices even though they knew it was a dead ritual (Acts 18:19-21; Acts 10:13-16; Acts 9:17-20). One reason for this is so they could win those who were being led astray and into the Truth of the Gospel (1Cor 9:19-23).

The Body of Christ is not the church as we know it. The Body of Christ is a Spiritual Temple ( that can not be seen (John 3:5-8; 17:20-23; Luke 17:20-21). The body of Christ is made up of those who have sacrificed their life for the Lord, for their brothers and sisters, and who have taken up their cross and follow the Lord (Mat 12:48-50).

The coming out of the Babylon system is a removal of oneself from obedience to a person or doctrine, and a giving of oneself to be obedient to our Savior, our Master, our Lord.

5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. (1Peter 2:)

34O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! 35Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. 6But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. 7So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. 8When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 9Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. (Ezek 33:)


20Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (James 5:)


4The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity. 5Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom. 6For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house. 34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. 40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. (Rom 3:)


34For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. 35Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch. (Mark 13:)


27What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. (Mat 10:)


15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:)


12Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:)


14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. So Moses finished the work.

34Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 35And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. (Ex 40:)


10And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD. (1Kings 8:)

4And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. 5For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. (Rev 18:)


20And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. 21Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. 22For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. 20And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. (Acts 9:)


19For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:)
