"You're so good to me. I don't deserve you."

What does the above statement have to do with quenching the Spirit? Hang around for a while and you will see.


In one of my "Confessionals" I wrote about entering a video store that I had frequented before. And that, unlike any time before, (and having had recently "received" the Holy Ghost) I was unable to enter because of a sickening repulsion I was feeling at the door.

This is not the only time I have felt that way. In fact, to one degree or another, I feel it often.


I enjoy Old Time Radio and TV programs. I used to spend a great deal of time listening to them and watching them.

I enjoy music. I especially enjoy the pleasant songs of the '40's, '50's and the '60's - my era. And I also enjoy the light Classical music of almost any era.

But for the past nearly a year I have had no interest whatever in experiencing any of them. Is there anything wrong with them? Not as far as I can see. Does it seem as if the Spirit is being abused as it did at the video store? No, not at all.

Those things just hold no interest to me any more.

All I want to do is study the Word and write these studies.


So if nothing is wrong with any of those things I mentioned - why did I bother to mention them at all? Am I saying that no one should partake of TV, radio or music?

Not at all. I have no idea what the Holy Spirit has in store for you, or for any one else for that matter. And I am quite certain that He has not intended that everyone stop their lives and start writing stories for the web; Any more than He has any of us running around the world like He did Paul the Apostle and those with him.

But there are some things happening with me that I believe are typical of all believers, and I believe this because I see it in the Scriptures.


The other day I was in the home of a friend who is a Hindu. On her prayer corner she has a couple little statues I suppose would easily qualify as idols.

She, this friend, said that one day a neighbor of hers was in her house and seemed highly offended or perturbed by those statues, being a Christian. She, the Hindu, was not judging this person, merely making an observation.

I have no trouble with her "Idols" at all. To me they are just little pieces of clay.

However I have been highly offended, and greatly disturbed - not at the Hindu's house, but at the Christian's house.

I have only been to the Christian's house but a few times; and each time I felt very uncomfortable and anxious to leave. And why was that? Because of their "Idols."

Perhaps you imagine I am speaking of a Catholic who has statues of the Saints or of Mary around the house.

No, they are not Catholic; but rather they are very Fundamental Christians. Not only are they Fundamental, but quite attached to their church with which they are highly involved.

So then, if they are the "typical Christian," what kind of idols could they possibly have?

The very same idol you have in your house that you bow before often during the day and evening.

And when I tell you what it is, you will do nothing about it, and you will have every reason to not do anything, because your Pastor has one in his home as well.

Is it a statue or a picture? Yes, and no. Maybe it's a car or a set of golf clubs? Yes, and no.

If these, or any other such thing gets in the way of your spending time with the Lord, then they count as idols as well. But you already knew that - your Pastor has told you.

These things you have control over. By that I mean you can park the car in the garage out of sight, or park your golf clubs in a closet and they won't "haunt" you.

But what about a tape player, a CD player, or a radio? Surely you have heard the garbage that has come out of these. Don't you find most Worldly music offensive?

There again, you have control over what comes through the radio or player sitting on your dresser. Those machines can either play trash, or beautiful music. It can even be a source of inspiration by playing Christian music, sermons and even the Bible on tape.


There is one instrument in your home, however, that is not so easily tamed. Of course you know what I am going to say - your TV.


In the Christian's home I visited, the big screen TV was steadily going, as does the TV in just about every home I visit. It is as if there is no off button on them. They are played as background, and way too often as fore ground as people sit absorbed by them.

The TV in this home was quite typical in the programs that are being broadcast. There were movies showing explosions, gunfights, swearing and sexual situations - all the "fun" things that TV is noted for. And between the film clips there were more film clips called "previews" of more violent, sexy vulgar movies they will be presenting for all of our "entertainment."

And between the film clips they showed commercials of scantily-clad men and women to tease us into buying their product so the station can have the money to show the film clips that titillate us.

And to make all this "Socially Acceptable" every once in a while there is a newscast presented whereby we can learn about the real violence and atrocities and sexual situation going on around the world.


Aren't we lucky.


Was I attracted at all to what was on the screen? Sure I was.

That is to say, my flesh was. But my Spirit was terribly uncomfortable.


While we feed the flesh; our Spirit is being quenched.


And if your Spirit, that is, the Holy Spirit is not causing you to feel uncomfortable while your flesh is being served - I would strongly suggest you check to make sure you in fact have the Holy Spirit.

And while you are at it, check out the 13th chapter of Matthew. See if Jesus has you listed there.


TVs, Radios, Music players, Computers, Magazines, Books, cigarettes, pornography and other such "stuff" are obvious enough, that is, they can easily be seen as "idols" that interfere with our relationship with the Lord and the Holy Spirit. It's not so much a question of "If" with them, as much as it is a question of "So What." So, if you agree with what I have said about them, then, What, if anything, are you going to do about it?


Of course, the chances are you will just write me off as a Religious Fanatic (as will your Pastor and Elders and anyone else with a TV in their house) and therefore continue that which you had been doing all along.


But if, for some unlikely reason, you feel inclined to hear more of this bazaar talk, I have yet the more to give you. And if it doesn't convince you that I am a kook, then it probably indicates that you are just as kooky as I am.

And - aren't we lucky!


I said the objects above can rather obviously become "Idols." Some of you might even agree with such a statement, but not apply the problem to yourself because you are above it all for whatever reason.

And perhaps you are right. How could I say otherwise?


But now I am going to add to the list some things you are very likely to shake your head at, and who could blame you?


Here, for a starter:

Your "significant other."

Or your family.

Or your job.

How about your image, or your self-esteem?

Have I overstepped the boundary yet? No?

Then try these:

Your Church.

Your Bible Study.

Your Jesus.


Ok. As for the above first list, if you didn't agree, here are some Scriptures to ponder (Mat 6:16-24; Luke 14:7-11; 14:25-35; 18:9-14).


As for your church? How could your church be an idol to you? An idol is anything that stands between you and God, that is, anything that you count more dear than the Lord Himself. Of course that takes in the Family, the Job, and the TV as well (Mat 22:34-40; 10:32-39).

But how can your church get in the way of your relationship with God? Isn't the church the very place you go to be with God?

Supposedly.


Jesus, from a child, went as often as He could to the Temple, which He called His Father's House. (John 2:16).

But was it really?

No, not really. It was Herod's Temple, that neither had Godly people running it (that is the High Priest who was selected by Rome, not birthright, the Pharisees, the Sadducees, and the Scribes - Preachers and Elders in today's terminology), nor was the presence if the Lord in it.

In the finished Tabernacle in the wilderness, and in the finished Temple that Solomon built there was the presence of the Lord. How is that, you say? In these two Houses of the Lord there were two "things" that indicated God was there and approved of the structures. One was the Ark of the Covenant that was a representation of the Lord; and the other was the Shekinah Glory (the Holy Spirit) that was the very Presence of the Lord (Col 2:16-17; Heb 8:1-5; Ex 25:8-9, 40; 29:42-45; 40:33-38; 2Chron 5:1-14; Rev 21:1-3; 22:1-4). But long before the Israelites were dispersed, the Ark had been lost, and the Shekinah Glory had withdrawn His presence.

So, since the Holy Spirit (the Glory Cloud) was not in the Temple that Herod built, where was the Glory - and was He ever in Herod's Temple?


Yes, He was.


Jesus is the finished work of the Ark of the Covenant. Of course you already knew that. And since Jesus was the finished work of God (and the completed Adam (Man) that is, the beginning of completed Mankind), the Shekinah Glory (the Holy Spirit) was in Jesus! (Rom 5:6-21; 1Cor 15:16-24, 41-50; John 1:1-14; Heb 1:1-3)

So, since Jesus had the Holy Spirit, and therefore was the very Presence of God - when Jesus was in the Temple - God was in the Temple.

And, if the Holy Spirit is in fact indwelling you, the presence of God is assured in your church as well - when you attend (John 14:25-31).


Jesus said as long as He was alive, that is, unless He died, the Holy Spirit could remain in Him alone. (John 12:23-26) Like a flower (or a grain of wheat), unless it dies, its seed remains in it and can produce no other. (Consider the Sower and the Seeds: Mat 13:1-11.)

But once Jesus died, the Holy Spirit could be planted in other pieces of earth (vessels) that were prepared (fertile ground) as was Jesus (1Thes 4:1-4; Rom 9:18-24; 2Tim 2:19-21; Heb 12:1-3).

Before this it was impossible for the Holy Spirit to indwell (and grow) in any man because the sin of Adam indwelt us all. Jesus died to erase that sin, allowing each and every one of us to only have to deal with our own sin (1John 1:8-10; Luke 13:2-3; Rev 3:1-3). And sin is "missing the mark," by a mile, or a fraction of an inch (James 2:10).

On our own it is impossible for us to be perfect as Jesus was. And God knows this. Therefore the Holy Spirit has been given to those who have taken the first step (Repentance and Submission) and wholeheartedly wish to empty themselves of ego and worldly desires (and entertainment) (Heb 11:6; Rom 8:10-16).

Half-hearted efforts will not suffice, regardless of what your preacher tells you. Take a look at Israel in the wilderness, how demanding God was on His "chosen" people - and that was merely for a piece of land!! (Num 15:30-38; Rev 3:15-16). Not for the promise of Eternal Life (in the real Paradise of God) as has been promised the Overcomers of this Church age!!! (Rev 2:7)


Jesus told the Pharisees (the most religious people of His day) that they must cleanse the inside of their cup, and then the outside would be clean. They, like the Christians of today (and the past 2,000 years) have tried to be content with merely cleaning the outside of their vessel. They believe(d) that by doing so, that is making an appearance of being righteous (works) they would be accepted by God.

But God is not interested in the outside of us, He wants to live on the inside of us, in the form of the Holy Spirit (John 14:23-24; 1John 3:20-24).

Our works to cleanse the inside of us is less than filthy rags to God (Isa 64:6-7). And even if our best works were to be successful, Jesus told us that our clean heart would only attract more "devils" if it isn't indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Mat 12:43-45).


And what does the Holy Spirit do with our clean heart? He cleanses us even more by pruning off (by disciplining) all the dead stuff of our life - even the good dead stuff; like reading the Bible for the sake of learning "Doctrine" with which to impress others, and that stands in the way of understanding that which God wants us to understand (John 15:1-2; Heb 6:1-3; Heb 12:4-8; 1Tim 1:3-4).


Jesus said He always does the will of the Father, and listened to and obeyed that which the Father wanted Him to do (John 5:30).


We are to do the same (John 15:9-10). But we can not hear the Lord speak to us over our own thoughts and the noise of the World. Can you imagine Jesus (or any of the Apostles) sitting in front of your TV or your tape player? If you can't, then neither can you expect the Holy Spirit, which is supposedly in you, to do so. And if He is in you, then you can be sure that He is making you feel very uncomfortable when He is not in control and being subjected to that which He despises. And, again, if you do not feel any discomfort when transgressing God's commandments - what do you think that says for your Salvation that you are counting so heavily on? (Heb 2:1-4)


Judging is something that comes natural too us all. We like to put others down in order to make ourselves look better in the eyes of others. Does it work? Not likely. Only in our own blind eyes have we pulled the wool over the eyes of others - unless they are as blind as we are ourselves.

Jesus advised us not to judge others. "Advised" is a bit tame; here is what He said: 1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. (Mat 7:1-2)


This is a very hard concept for people to grasp; Christians especially. We, the church, have a tradition of being tiffed at those who disagree with us, especially about Jesus. In the past, if you didn't see Jesus (and read the Bible in the same way) as did the church of the day, you were either burned at the stake, or beheaded.

And usually you didn't even get a choice!

In this day and age we are very proficient at judging others, especially when it comes to our view of Jesus and the Bible. And the church, right after the Pastor warns you about judging others, tells you to stay away from, and to condemn those who see Jesus or the Bible slightly different than you and your church does.


In the beginning I said; "You're so good to me. I don't deserve you." I say this often to God, but today I had a thought about the times I might have heard it said of me, but didn't.

When I care for someone, there is little or nothing that I won't do for them. I enjoy doing for those I love. It gives me great pleasure; and I feel hurt and robbed if they do not let me do for them.

It is very possible that you feel the same. I will assume for this study that you do, however there are a great many people (especially Christians) who would much rather have others do for them than to do for others.

My thought was how it usually happens that the more I care for someone, and the more I do for them - the less they care for me - and especially, the less they appreciate me and that which I do for them.

I find this is a natural characteristic of mankind - myself included. Jesus is, of course, the ultimate example of being unappreciated for His supreme sacrifice. But apparently so was Paul according to 2Cor 12:15.

When I give to, or do for others, and they begin to take me for granted, and/or stop appreciating what I do; I tend to feel hurt, and I withdraw from that person. Withdrawing does not necessarily mean that I think less of that person, but I feel my efforts are wasted on them. It also means to me that I might even be harming the person I care for by creating a situation that's bringing forth a nature that is uncharacteristic of them.

Of course discovering such a fault could be considered a good thing if, by that discovery, they choose to work to rid themself of it. However, it has been my experience that this is rarely to never the case. Rather, I find, it's like the alcoholic wife-abuser who, when confronted with the probability of losing the one he is abusing, promises to do something about the problem - not because he wants to be free of the problem, but just to keep under tow the one he is abusing.

And when I am not appreciated - I feel abused.

Don't you?


Then how do we think the Holy Spirit feels when He is constantly bombarded with the trash of this World while supposedly we are desiring Him to make us over into that which we must become in order to stand in the presence of God?


"You're so good to me. I don't deserve you."

And who does? I certainly don't deserve God and all He has done, and is doing for me. He requires so little of me; and that which He does require, He does the doing of it, and all I have to do is release it and allow Him to do with it what He will (1John 1:1-10).


And this simple act of letting go I find very difficult.

19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! 24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28And why take ye thought for raiment? 25And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, 26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. 31Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? 32Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. 33So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. 34Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? 35It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Luke 14:)


61And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. (Luke9:)


9And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (Luke 18:)


34But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Mat 22:)


32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. (Mat 10:)


14And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: 15And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; 16And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. 17And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. (John 2:)


16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. (Col 2:)


1Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. 3For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. 4For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: 5Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount. (Heb 8:)


8And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. 9According to all that I show thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it. (Ex 25:)


42This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD: where I will meet you, to speak there unto thee. 43And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory. 44And I will sanctify the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar: I will sanctify also both Aaron and his sons, to minister to me in the priest's office. 45And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God. 46And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, that brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them: I am the LORD their God. (Ex 29:)


. 33And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.

34Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 35And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 36And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: 37But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. 38For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. (Ex 40:)


2 Chronicles 5

1Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God. 2Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. 3Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month. 4And all the elders of Israel came; and the Levites took up the ark. 5And they brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, these did the priests and the Levites bring up. 6Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude. 7And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims: 8For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. 9And they drew out the staves of the ark, that the ends of the staves were seen from the ark before the oracle; but they were not seen without. And there it is unto this day. 10There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.

11And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course: 12Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) 13It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; 14So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.


1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. (Rev 21:)


1And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: 4And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. (Rev 22:)


6For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. 12Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom 5:)


20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. (1Cor 15:)


41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. 42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. 48As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. 49And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. (1Cor 15:)


1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:)


1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Heb 1:)


25These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. 30Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. 31But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence. (John 14:)


The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. (John 12:)


1The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 2And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. 10And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. (Mat 13:)


1Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. 2For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. 3For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 4That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; 5Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: (1Thes 4:)


18Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. 19Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? 20Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 21Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? 22What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: 23And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, 24Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? (Rom 9:)


19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. (2Tim 2:)


1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (Heb12:)


8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1John 1:)


2And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:2-3)


21And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. (Rev 2:)


1And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. 2Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. 3Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. (Rev 3:)


8If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: 9But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 10For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. (James 2:)


4By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Heb 11:)


10And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (Rom 8:).


30But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 31Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.

32And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. 33And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. 34And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. 35And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. 36And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses. (Num 15:)


These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (Rev 3:)


7He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. (Rev 2:)


23Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. (John 14:)


20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. (1John 3:)


6But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities. (Isa 64:)


43When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. (Mat 12:)


1Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3And this will we do, if God permit. (Heb 6:)


4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. 5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (Heb 12:)


3As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. (1Tim 1:)


30I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. (John 5:)


1I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. 11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 16Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. 17These things I command you, that ye love one another. (John 15:)


1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. 2For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; 3How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? (Heb 2:)


15And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.(2Cor 12:)


1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

5This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1John 1:)
