Busybody Reports

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived

"Hi-de-ho everybody. This is Michael Jay Busybody in the home of Muggins De Credulous. Mr Credulous, it has come to my attention that you have recently experienced a miraculous healing. Would you mind telling me and my listening audience about this wondrous occasion?"

"I would be most happy to tell you about my healing Mr Busybody. But I must inform you that my physical restoration is but one part of my healing. I was also given a spiritual healing and an assurance of eternal life of bliss at the time of my miraculous healing."

"Do tell Mr Credulous. That is indeed a pleasure to hear. Please relate to us this amazing experience, and spare us no details."

"It would be my pleasure Mr Busybody. To begin my story I must inform you that I was diagnosed with terminal cancer six months ago. The cancer was discovered during a yearly physical when a lump was discovered on my abdomen."

"A lump on your abdomen you say Mr Credulous. That must have been a harrowing experience to be informed of your imminent demise. I would assume that your physician advised you to undergo surgery in order to rid yourself of your burden. Or perhaps he suggested a more holistic approach to alleviate the problem."

"He did indeed Mr Busybody. But I was fortunate to encounter an even better solution in the person of a faith healer who happened to be passing through town that very day, Lord be praised."

"That is indeed an amazing coincidence Mr Credulous, and certainly a blessing for you. I take it then it was through this faith healer that you were afforded your miraculous healing and your spiritual renewal?"

"Yes indeedee Mr Busybody. I was assured by the good reverend that I was not only healed of my cancer in its entirety, but I was cured of my drinking problem and assured entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. All this, I might add, in just a moment of time. Just think of it my good man, eternal life assured, cured of my deadly disease, and given deliverance from my alcoholism. Will wonders never cease."

"I take it then you haven't bothered to seek help or advise beyond that which you have already stumbled upon Mr Credulous. Am I correct in my assumption?"

"You are indeed Mr Busybody. Why look any farther when you have already found what you're looking for? I sought a cure and assurance that what I now am is what I should be. What more might a person want? Isn't that marvelous Mr Busybody?"

"That certainly is a marvelous story Mr Credulous. I find it even more incredible seeing that you now hold in you hand a bottle of cheap wine. I may be wrong Mr Credulous, but isn't it part of the deliverance process that one refrain from doing that which they were delivered from? I mean by that, shouldn't there be signs of such a deliverance exhibited by the one so delivered?"

"That certainly is a fair assumption to make Mr Busybody. And it has always been my belief as well. However the good reverend assured me that signs of deliverance is neither necessary nor is it even expected. He gave me full assurance that all that's necessary is that one be baptized and repeat the sinner's prayer. That I did, and splendidly so I might add. No Mr Busybody. As incredulous as it may seem, evidence is not a part of the conversion process."

"That is indeed incredible Mr Credulous. Then shall I assume that since evidence is not a part of the deliverance process, that evidence is not a part of the assurance of Heaven as well?"

"That is my understanding, yes Mr Busybody. Heaven is promised to the faithful. By faith alone, and without evidence we are assured of Heaven if we have fulfilled all the due requirements, which, as I just enumerated, I have done."

"Correct me if I'm mistaken Mr Credulous, but it seems to me in the little I know of the Bible that when Jesus healed someone He left them with instructions to go and sin no more. In fact, on at least one occasion He told the healed person that if they sinned a worse thing would happen to them. Does that fit into your deliverance of alcoholism at all Mr Credulous? I mean, would that not be evidence that evidence might be expected if the deliverance is in fact a reality?"

"Faith, Mr Busybody. You must remember that we are saved by faith. Evidence is the opposite of faith. This is what the good reverend told me when I asked hin that same question. I have faith, and faith is of more importance than evidence."

"I agree that faith is indeed important Mr Credulous. I am just wondering what it is that you have faith in. I find this especially so considering that, along with lacking evidence that you were healed of your alcoholism, I see a very large protuberance upon your abdomen that looks suspiciously to me like what you described as being the cancer that would soon cause your demise. As I consider your firm belief concerning the need of evidence as verification of your salvation Mr Credulous, I can't help but wonder how your assurance of eternal life the good reverend promised you fits in to your future."

22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (James 1:)

3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (2Tim 4:)

26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (James 2:)
