Busybody Reports

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die

"Hi-de-ho everybody. This is Michael Jay Busybody coming at you from the home of Phanguard J Fanatik. Mr Fanatik is the presiding President of the state-wide Fan club of Rock music. And with him is his brother Phynius J Fanatik who is past and future President of the state's football fan club. Well Mr Fanatic and Mr Fanatik, I suppose it would be safe to say that between the two of you there isn't much you don't know about Rock music and football. Am I safe in assuming this?"

"Indeed you are Mr Busybody. Phynius and I have been involved with collecting everything football and Rock since we were very small children. Whatever football I find I throw at Phynius, every Rock Phynius finds he throws at me. Between the two of us we throw a great deal at one another."

"I see by your walls and by your trophy cases that you have indeed collected a great deal of memorabilia on the subject of Rock and football. I suspect this collection has cost the two of you a pretty penny and a great deal of your time."

"That it has Mr Busybody. The time and the money Phanguard and I have spent on our collection has cost us not only our earnings and our savings, but our wife and family as well. You see Mr Busybody, when a person chooses to take his chosen interest seriously, he must dedicate everything he has toward that interest. He must allow nothing to interfere with his drive toward perfecting that interest and learn all he can about what he has chosen to do. Family, friends, and common reasoning must take second place to that devotion. Have I described our attitude toward our area of fanaticism adequately brother Phanguard?"

"I would say you have brother Phynius. I would just add one thing, and that is the necessity to not only acquire everything available in the area of one's chosen fanaticism, but also to learn all one can about each of the participants such as the players and their history and records. Dedication is essential to be a successful fanatic. Nothing less will do."

"Thank you for adding that clarification brother Phanguard. Our summery of fanaticism would not have been complete without it."

"That was indeed a fine explanation you gave to me and my listeners, brothers Phanguard and Phynius. Thank you. And I see you have quite a collection of guitars here. And you have many footballs with signatures covering them. Am I to assume these are treasures the two of you have collected over the years?"

"Oh yes Mr Busybody. The footballs you see are signed by all the team members of each of the teams, and the guitars are those once owned by the greatest of Rock stars."

"It is indeed an honor to be amongst such elegant memorabilia. Would it be asking too much if I were to ask you to show me the best way to hold a football, and to have you play a tune on your many guitars?"

"Well, a-hem! You see Mr Busybody, whereas we collect these many lovely and expensive items, we don't actually know how to use any of them. It's in the collecting of things, and in the memorizing of information that a fanatic builds his reputation. It is the job of the participants themselves to learn how to actually do the things we speak about and that we present to the world for their examination."

"Oh, I see. Well then, because you are such strong followers of your given interests, I would assume you are given free admission to the Rock concerts and to the football games?"

"Well, no, that hasn't happened. However once we were given half price tickets to the local High School game, and invited to their talent show. I suppose that would count for something."

"I was noticing that amongst your memorabilia you have a Bible. Can I take it that you are Christians then?"

"Oh yes Mr Busybody. Phynius and I are very much Christian, having been since we were very small children. Isn't that so brother Phynius?"

"Indeed it is brother Phanguard. You see Mr Busybody, Phanguard and I are elders in the biggest church in town. We are highly respected members of our church and we actively support whatever cause they happen to support. Isn't that so brother Phanguard?"

"Indeed it is brother Phynius."

"That is very interesting Phynius and Phanguard. Then, I would suppose seeing that you have such a fanatical nature about yourself, and since you've set your strong attentions to being a Christian, that you've also learned a lot about the Bible, and that you have been collecting in the area of Christian memorabilia and literature as well. Would I be asking too much to see that collection?"

"Mr Busybody. Just who do you think you're talking to? A couple of religious fanatics?"

"For shame Mr Busybody."

26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? (Luke 14:)

13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Rom 8:)

13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. (Rom 2:)
