Penelope Potter Ss.T
"GOOD MORNING MISS POTTER!"
"Is everyone ready to begin their Sunday School lesson for today?"
"YES MISS POTTER!"
"Very good. Then we will begin. Today's lesson is about taking a good look at our self and learning to become better people. First I will.... Yes Ralph? You have a question you want to ask?"
"Kinda Miss Potter. I just wanted to tell you that Billy was making fun of Wanda's hair this morning. I don't think that's nice, do you Miss Potter?"
"Hey! You were hitting me on the back with a rubber ball Ralph. That wasn't nice either you know!"
"Miss Potter, Mary sometimes pulls my hair. Can I hit her when she does that?"
"Miss Potter? Miss Potter? William was....."
"Children please! This is exactly what our lesson is about. All of you are busy trying to find something wrong with somebody else. We could spend all day doing nothing but finding fault with one another and tattling on them. But what good would it do? Even if you could get the other person to change, what good would it do you? Yes Jane, you have something to say?"
"Yes Miss Potter. If I could get Mary to stop pulling my hair then I wouldn't be mad at her so much. That would be a good thing, wouldn't it?"
"Mary, you have your hand up. Do you have something you would like to say?"
"Yes Miss Potter. The reason I pull Jane's hair is because she makes fun of my glasses all the time. If she stopped making fun of me...."
"Children, I want you to take a close look at what all of you are doing. Each of you is trying to change someone else and make them into the way you believe they should be. Yes Paul, you have something to say?"
"Yes Miss Potter. I didn't say anything about anyone. I didn't even tell you about Mike pulling the cat's tail."
"Hey! Miss Potter, I....!"
"That's ok Mike. The point is that each of us needs to stop looking at one another and judging them and trying to change them. We can't change how other people feel, or how they behave. But there is someone we can change. Who do you think that might be? Yes Martha?"
"Do you mean Jesus Miss Potter? I don't think we can change Jesus. I think He can change us though, maybe."
"Yes He can Martha. And how do you think Jesus changes us? What's the first thing we must do if Jesus is going to change us? Yes Billy?"
"Maybe like we have got to do to us like we do to each other? I mean, we have to look at what we do and tell on ourselves kinda like?"
"Very good Billy. And what is that called? Does anybody know?"
"You mean like repeat Miss Potter? You have to repeat first?"
"I think you mean to repent Teddy. Yes, we must repent. But there's something else we must do besides repent. What is that children?"
"You mean like what we talked about last month Miss Potter? You mean like to admit we did bad things and to see them as bad like God sees them as bad?"
"That's right Patty. That's called confession. We must do to ourselves what you children have been doing to one another, and confess that what we do is wrong, and that God wants us to change. Then we.... Yes Paul?"
"Then we stop doing it. Is that right Miss Potter?"
