Penelope Potter Ss.T

believe not every spirit, but try the spirit.

"Good morning children."

"Is everyone ready to begin their Sunday School lesson for today?"

"Very good. Then we will begin. Today's lesson is about.... , yes Michael?"

"Miss Potter? Is there really a man in the moon? My uncle told me there is and that he eats green cheese all the time. Is that true? I think it is. But Billy said it's not. It's true, isn't it Miss Potter? Tell Billy it's true."

"It is not Michael. How can a man climb up to the moon? And besides, there's no green cheese on the moon, if there was, the moon would be green. But it's yellow. So the cheese is all yellow, not green."

"No it isn't Billy. Linda, you think the man in the moon is real, don't you. Say you think he's real or I'll get mad at you."

"I guess he's real Michael. I don't want you to be mad at me."

"And Jane, you think he's real, don't you. Say you think he's real or else."

"Um, ok, I guess. I really don't care if he's real or not."

"See Billy? It's like I said, the man in the moon is real because there's more on my side than on yours. So there!"

"That's not true Michael. I don't care if everyone in the world believes there's a man on the moon, there still isn't. So there yourself!"

"Children, it appears to me that some of you feel if enough people agree with you, then what you hold to be true must be true in spite of any evidence against what you believe. Do all of you feel this way, the way Michael does?"

"Miss Potter? What does that mean? Isn't it true? When I think a cereal is best because the TV says everybody like it best, like Pepsi, don't that mean it is best? I always think so. I like what other people like. Don't you?"

"It's true we are bombarded from every side by people trying to convince us what to like and how to think. But do you think it's right to just go along with the crowd and not think for ourselves what is right and what is wrong?"

"I think so Miss Potter. I'm just a kid. Those are grownups telling us what's best. They should know, shouldn't they? Aren't we supposed to believe what grownups tell us?"

"See? That's just like what I said. I said there's a man in the moon who eats green cheese. I know because a grownup told me. So I win. Ha, ha, ha!"

1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (1John 4:)

6I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (Gal 1:)

2Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; (2Tim 3:)
