Penelope Potter Ss.T
And what I say unto you I say unto all.
"GOOD MORNING MISS POTTER!"
"Is everyone ready to begin their Sunday School lesson for today?"
"YES, MISS POTTER!"
"Very good. Then we will begin. Today's lesson is about...., Jimmy, please sit down and pay attention. Today's lesson is about obedience and following directions. Now children, everybody turn to page 12 in your workbook. Jimmy, please, put down your radio and turn to page 12. At the top of the page you will see .... Bobby, did you hear me? Turn to page 12 in your workbook."
"Oh, was you talking to me Miss Potter? I thought you was talking to Jimmy. What was it you said you want me to do?"
"I said please turn to page 12 and at the top of the page you will.... Leroy, are you listening to me? Leroy?"
"Yes Miss Potter? What do you want?"
"I want you to turn to page 12 in your workbook. Please pay attention. Now, are we all on page.... Tommy! Are you listening to me? Did you hear what I said?"
"Oh, you mean me Miss Potter? I thought you was talking to Leroy? You want me to do it too?"
"Yes Tommy, you too. Now, is everybody turned to.... Walter! What are you doing? Why aren't you turned to the page I asked you to turn to? Are you listening to me?"
"Oh, you were talking to me too. I thought you was talking to Tommy and Leroy and Jimmy. I didn't know you were talking to me too. Ok, what do you want me to do now?"
"I do declare children. Is this the way they teach you to pay attention in school these days? Understand, when I ask you to do something, I'm not just talking to one person, nor am I talking to someone else. I am talking to you. Just think now, if we were to have a fire in this room, would I have to tell each of you individually to leave the room as quickly as you.... Willard! What are you doing? Come back here and sit down. Have you been paying any attention at all to what I've been saying?"
"Yes Miss Potter. I don't know what you said before because you was talking to Bobby, Tommy and Jimmy. But I heard you say there was a fire in here and to get out as fast as I can. So that's what I'm doing. I don't see no fire, but I heard you say for me to go. So I go'ed."
5He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Mat 11:)
17perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? 18Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? (Mark 8:)
37And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch. (Mark 13:)
45It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. (John 6:)
17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till ALL [ Note ALL be fulfilled, not just those concerning the death of Jesus.] be fulfilled. 19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Mat 5:)
23And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 24Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation. 25There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. 26her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: THEY HAVE PUT NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOLY AND PROFANE, NEITHER HAVE THEY SHOWED DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. 27Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and TO DESTROY SOULS, to get dishonest gain. 28And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. 29The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. 30And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. 31Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD. (Ezek 22:)
[Note: We MUST keep in mind that God is talking to His people, His "Church" and not to the world. He is concerned with His ministers, His "shepherds" polluting the Sanctuary, which we are to be, and certainly the Church is to be. God is telling us His attitude toward sin, and what is sin in His eyes. And we must keep in mind two things in particular: One, what God said to Israel, He means for us as well. And what He did to Israelites and that church for breaking His covenant with Him, He will surely do to us for breaking His covenant with us. We HAVE to learn to listen to what God says. When God speaks to one person, during one period of time, He is speaking to all. Adam's sin applies to us just as much as it applied to Adam, just as does his punishment for breaking God's commandment. Babylon is about to fall. And if we don't stop playing games with God's Word, and realize that we, the church, are Babylon, then we will go the way of Sodom and Gomorrah, and of Israel.]
1And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD; 3Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! 4O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. 5Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel TO STAND in the battle in the day of the LORD. 6They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. 7Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken? 8Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD. 9And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
10Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered mortar: 11Say unto them which daub it with untempered mortar, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. [Remember, God is talking to, and about His church here.] 12Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it? 13Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it. 14So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 15Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered mortar, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; 16To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD.
17Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them, 18And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you? 19And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, TO SLAY THE SOULS THAT SHOULD NOT DIE, AND TO SAVE THE SOULS ALIVE THAT SHOULD NOT LIVE, BY YOUR LYING TO MY PEOPLE THAT HEAR YOUR LIES? 20Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly. 21Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver MY PEOPLE [Note, that amongst this wayward church there are a people God calls "His" people. Does this bring to mind the Woman in White that "came out of her (Babylon) My people"? The great whore wears the trappings of the church, and the jewels, which are the people of God, giving all evidence that she is the true church, deceiving even the righteous.] out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 22Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and STRENGTHENED THE HANDS OF THE WICKED, THAT HE SHOULD NOT RETURN FROM HIS WICKED WAY, BY PROMISING HIM LIFE: 23Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver MY PEOPLE out of your hand: [Remember, God is talking to the preachers and the "prophets" here, not to the world. Keep in mind that prophets are those who claim to interpret the Words of God such as preachers and theologians, not only the ones who say "yea, yea, thus sayeth the Lord."] and ye shall know that I am the LORD. (Ezek 13:)
[Note: It's thought that "pillows" might refer to magic amulets, however the Hebrew does not bear this out. So, the meaning remains unclear. What is clear is that, whatever they are, they are supposed to "make people fly." What does that bring to your mind?]
3For THE TIME WILL COME when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2Tim 4:)
8Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be FOR THE TIME TO COME FOR EVER AND EVER: 9That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: 10Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: (Isaiah 10:)
[Note: 500 years apart, and the words are the same. They write to a people and time "to come." We would now say "has come," because we are the ones looking to be deceived. And we are so good at it! ]
13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. (2Tim 3:)
20And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. 21And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him. 22And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. 23Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee. (1Kings 22:)
[Note: Did you see that? Did God in fact put a lying spirit into someone so they will do something that will cause that person to be destroyed? Is that the God you know and worship? Let's see what else God has to say about Himself:]
4Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; 5That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. 6Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. 7For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: 8And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 9And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I THE LORD HAVE DECEIVED THAT PROPHET, and I WILL STRETCH OUT MY HAND UPON HIM, AND WILL DESTROY HIM from the midst of my people Israel. 10And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him; 11That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD. (Ezek 14:)
[Note: Who is the one who does the destroying? Isn't it Satan: Who is the one who causes the prophets, thereby us, to be deceived? Isn't it the devil? Read the foregoing again and see if you come up with the same answer.]
8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 9Whosoever transgresseth, and ABIDETH NOT IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, HATH NOT GOD. HE THAT ABIDETH IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, HE HATH BOTH THE FATHER AND THE SON.
10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. (2John 1:)
[Note: God said we shall have no other gods before Him. We, that is the "traditional" church say that those we call "cults" who don't see Jesus and God the Father as we do are lost because they worship a strange god, and not the God who is the true God. Is this your attitude? Then be careful you don't fall under your own condemnation.
Is a person or church who worships God in the very same way we do worshiping the true God if that person calls God a woman? How about if that person sees God as a multiple god (polytheistic), or if they see Jesus as we do, only they see Him as just another incarnation of the Father along with many others? Then, if this should happen to be your thinking, wouldn't your judgement also apply to you if you have changed the reality of God? Wouldn't you then be worshiping a false god just as they are?
Be careful of your answer. It could very well effect your eternal destiny.]
5The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, CHANGED THE ORDINANCE, broken the everlasting covenant. 6Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. (Isaiah 24:)
5I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: 6That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. 7I form the light, and create darkness: I MAKE PEACE, AND CREATE EVIL: I THE LORD DO ALL THESE THINGS. (Isaiah 45:)
[ Question: Who creates evil? The devil you say.]
23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:)
19I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. (Isaiah 45:)
[ How true! God has made His desires and plans abundantly clear, yet they are hidden from us. Why? Because we cover God's truth with fables and ignorance, preferring our own versions of God and His purposes, and by neglecting the reading and the study of His Word.]
11Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. 12Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD. 13For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. (Jer 2:)
6For I am the LORD, I CHANGE NOT. (Malachi 3:)
21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, (Rom 1:)
28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; (Rom 1:)
32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Rom 1:)
5And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary. 6And thou shalt say to the rebellious, even to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O ye house of Israel, let it suffice you of all your abominations, 7In that ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers, uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to pollute it, even my house, when ye offer my bread, the fat and the blood, AND THEY HAVE BROKEN MY COVENANT BECAUSE OF ALL YOUR ABOMINATIONS. 8And ye have not kept the charge of mine holy things: but ye have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for yourselves. 9Thus saith the Lord GOD; NO STRANGER, UNCIRCUMCISED IN HEART, NOR UNCIRCUMCISED IN FLESH, SHALL ENTER INTO MY SANCTUARY, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel. (Ezek 44:)
[ Who is God talking to? Why, He's talking to Israel, right? So you and I, not part of the nation Israel can disregard all God's Words, is this not true?]
6Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: 7Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. 8That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE are counted for the seed. (Romans 9:)
[ I ask again: Who is God talking to?]
26For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Gal 3:)
[ Are you an "heir to the promise"? If not, then don't count on the promises you see in the Bible being yours. So again I ask: Who is God talking to in the Old Testament? If He's speaking to us, the Church, don't you think we should listen? What happened to the nation of Israel because they refused to listen to, and do what God said they should do? Will we receive any less if we refuse to listen and obey?]
23And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean. 24And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to my judgments: and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine assemblies; and they shall hallow my sabbaths. (Ezek 44:)
11For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. 12But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible. 13Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD. 14But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen. (Malachi 1:)
[Ah ha! You say. How can we make sacrifices today? There is no sacrifice we can make because Jesus made the final sacrifice. So this must mean these words are not for us, the Christian: Right?]
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that YE PRESENT YOUR BODIES A LIVING SACRIFICE, HOLY, ACCEPTABLE UNTO GOD, which is your reasonable service. (Rom 12:)
24Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. (Mat 16:)
21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, EVEN AS I ALSO OVERCAME, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (Rev 3:)
[ Are you by any chance trying to offer up a polluted sacrifice to the Lord? Is your body and your mind polluted by the world at all? Do you think God will accept anything less than our best sacrifice?}
11Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD; Surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine abominations, [ Keep in mind who God is talking to here. God is talking to those in charge of His sanctuary, not the world. See Ezek 9:1-11 and 1Peter 4:17 ] therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye spare, neither will I have any pity. 12A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee: and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee; and I will scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them. 13Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the LORD have spoken it in my zeal, when I have accomplished my fury in them. [ Many chapters are devoted to God's anger at His "Church." And with but one sleepy eye open, it is not difficult at all to recognize He is talking about the tribulation, and the wrath He intends to pour upon the people who bear His name in vain. If we refuse to recognize that we are who God is speaking to, we will suffer just as those of Israel suffered who refused to listen to the words of these very same prophets of God.] (Ezek 5:)
[Note: What kind of god are you worshiping? What image have you forced God into that you bow down to? We hear of people who worship the god of money, or things, or sex; but what about those who have formed God into the image of all love, or all anger, or one who is complacent about the world? If you believe God is all anger, then you need to read the accounts of Jesus and the Apostles. If you worship the God that is all love, then it would behoove you to read any part of the Old Testament, Matthew chapter 24, or the book of Revelation and see what happened (and will happen) to others who viewed God as a father who does not spank.
The Old Testament is for us today as much as it was for God's people of the Old Testament. The Old Testament is not just a book of history and interesting stories, it is a book that tells what God wants, and demands, of those who take on His Name. And it's an account of what happens to people who do not follow the will of God.
If you are one who believes that all you have to do is take a bath, and say a few words, whether you meant them or not, and expect to be yanked up in a cloud and taken to God's paradise, then perhaps you should read again the Old Testament, especially the prophets, and see what God has to say about you. And if you believe your version of righteousness, whatever that might be, is going to save you, then consider what happened to the Jews of Jesus time, the most righteous people in the world.
God has created two roads that we might follow. He has also instilled in us an understanding of Him and the right way, and He has given us a nature that resists that road. Our purpose is to oppose our own nature, and to submit to that which is against our own nature, that is: to do God's will. We see this in Adam and Eve, and we see it in the history of the Jewish people. If we understand our purpose, and we are willing to let go of our desire to appease ourselves, then we can see God for Who He is, and not what we want Him to be.
Have you ever wondered why there have been no prophets like there were during the days of Israel, and later the Apostles? Have you ever considered the possibility that God has said all He has to say in the thousand pages collecting dust on your coffee table? We have at our fingertips thousands of prophesies, and hundreds of miracles, and even the very sayings and life of the Son of God. What good would miracle performing prophets do us if we aren't even willing to study and utilize what we have already been given?
Yes, Suzie, God is speaking to you too.]
11But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. 12Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. 13Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts: 14But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate. (Zech 7:)
11Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. (Amos :)
