The Parsonage

whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all

Have you ever wondered what the life of a minister is like? Well, wonder no longer, because it's time for The Parsonage, where you will experience a day in the life of Reverend Leopold and his wife Ermintrude Bach, patriarch of the perish.

The role of a pastor and his wife is probably the most under-appreciated and least understood of any in existence. Pastors are seen as people seeking an easy livelihood, living off the labors of others on the order of the man holding up a cardboard sign on the corner.

In fact the incidence of stress related illnesses are higher among pastors and their wives than just about, if not absolutely, any other occupation. The pastor is not only the glue that binds families and communities together, insuring their moral and spiritual health, but they are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And very likely, except for the occasional pastor's conference, without a break for refreshing. And with the advent of the cell phone, the number of stress related illnesses has increased dramatically.

It is my hope and intention in this series to bring an awareness to the forefront of the situations and problems that a pastor, of any denomination, faces. And if you, after the reading of these stories, do not rush to lend aid and other ways show appreciation to your pastor and his wife, then I have either failed in my purposes, or you are failing as a Christian.

Please read on and hopefully enjoy Life in the Parsonage.

43But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: 44And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. 45For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Mark 10:)

17Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. (Heb 13:)
