to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more
In today's episode we find Mrs Bach answering the door. Listen:
"No Mrs Beezly, not at this moment. The pastor is having his prayer time. You'll have to come back later."
"But this is urgent I have to see Pastor Leo now."
"I'm sorry Mrs Beezly. We go through this every week. You know this is the Pastor's quiet time. You'll just have to return at a later hour."
"But you don't understand, this is very urgent...."
"It's always urgent Mrs Beezly. But I've told you...."
"It's ok Dear, I'm finished now. You can send Mrs Beezly in."
"Pastor, I'm in great need, and you just have to help me. I just don't know what I'm going to do. You've just got to help me."
"Please, sit down Mrs Beezly. Is it your gallbladder again? Or maybe it's your hot water heater?"
"No, nothing as trivial as that. It's my granddaughter. I just don't know what I'm going to do!"
"Is Esmeralda in trouble again? Do you want me to try talking to her? I don't think...."
"It's not that Pastor Leo. It's her grades. I'm afraid she's going to fail her finals. You just got to pray for her, that she'll pass this test. She just has to pass it."
"Has Esmeralda been studying for this test Mrs Beezly? She's not one given to study as I understand her to be."
"No she hasn't Pastor Leo. I've tried and tried to get her to study, but she just won't listen. Now I'm afraid she'll fail this test. I just couldn't bear it if she fails again."
"Mrs Beezly, I'll surely pray for Esmeralda, but I'm afraid that prayer is not going to take the place of study. But why are you so concerned with your granddaughter passing this test?"
"Because Pastor Leo, if Esmeralda fails that will mean another year of having to keep her at my house and endure her lazy ways. I couldn't stand another year Pastor. You've just got to help me."
"I'll make a point of praying for your granddaughter Mrs Beezly. That's about all I can do if she refuses to help herself. You may go now. And the Lord be with you."
"Thank you Pastor Leo. I'll see you again later and tell you how things are going with me."
"I'm sure you will Mrs Beezly, I'm sure you will."
"Yes, and the ones that get to me the most are those like the Beadles who expect me to come fix their toilet because as they put it, I have nothing to do. Oh well, such is the life of a pastor. I knew it when I took this job. Besides, the former pastor warned me as to the people here. But I guess they're the same everywhere. People are people. I'm just glad I have you here to run interference for me. I don't know what I'd do if I had to handle this alone. Oops, someone at the door. Could you get it Dear? Time to run some more interference."
"Well, good morning Bobby. How are you today? And I see you have your wagon with you. Did you come to visit? Or do you have a message for me?"
"Huh un Mrs Pastor. The wheel comed off my wagon and I wanted you to fix it for me. It's real important because I got to go get some milk for my cat."
"Dear! Another urgent matter has come up. Time to bring out the ol' wrench and hammer!"
