MUSIC INFORMATION

Music is a new addition to my life. This episode has been covered in the Abstract Musician, so I won't go into it here.

For recording I have a tiny music studio set up in what was built for a storage shed or bunk house. It's all new to me, so I am in the growing process.

Learning music theory, the various musical instruments and playing techniques is very time consuming. And so is learning how to use all the different aspects of the computer and the recording software and devices. Time I have decided is better spent on this web site - at least for the time being.

All the above is just a long-winded way of saying that new songs will be slow in coming.

Canyon Echoes was my first attempt at recording. It was just an experiment to learn how to use my recording equipment and software. The flute used is a cedar Native American flute in the key of 'G'. The echoes were added by software. The deep and high flute sounds were accomplished by raising and lowering the pitch of the 'G' flute one octave up, and down.

To get the best results from this song, listen to it on stereo speakers that are set wide apart, and that are capable of registering the deepness of the low flute.

For the Techno-nerds reading this, the following is a summary of my studio. It's all old and/or cheap stuff, but it seems to accomplish all I have skills for:

Computer- Home-built 1800 Athlon, 512 mg RAM, M-Audio 2496 and Soundblaster Live Sound cards, Removable HD trays utilizing XP and Millennium OS.

Hardware- Behringer 1002 mixer, Shure 57 & 58 Microphones, Roland near-field monitors, M-Audio O2 MIDI controller,

Software- Sonar 2 (now have 4), Sound Forge 5, Fruity Loops, Music Center, Wavelab Lite, Midisoft Studio 6, -- and a bunch of other stuff that either came free with purchase, and/or that I will most likely never use or understand.

This list may look impressive to those of you who are unfamiliar with these toys. But to those in the know, they are probably holding their nose while reading the list.
