"Feelings"

Feelings are extensions of our Soul, like the Conscience,

They guide us on the Right Path.

Tumbleweed

Sounds right. But perhaps this is a subject worthy of discussion.

Let us first investigate what the Wise Men of Old have discovered on the subject, shall we?

Our Spiritual Leaders have apparently buried this subject deep in their writings. So let's turn to our secular Forefathers for advice.

*

First, we have this from Herbert Spencer:

"Opinion is ultimately determined by the feelings and not by the intellect."

*

And this from John Ruskin:

"All violent feelings...produce in us a falseness in all our impression of external things, which I would generally characterize as the 'Pathetic Fallacy'."

*

Now a poem from Matthew Arnold:

"Below the surface stream, shallow and light, Of what we say and feel- below the stream, As light, of what we think we feel, there flows With noiseless current, strong, obscure and deep, The central stream of what we feel indeed."

*

And a word from Horace Walpole:

"This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy those that feel."

*

Now for one from William Wordsworth that can be taken many ways, depending on the inflection given:

"We feel that we are greater than we know."

*

And finally this from Mary Wollstonecraft:

"We reason deeply, when we forcibly feel."

*

Now let us see how our Old Wise men feel about feelings.
