VIRTUES & VICES
God created man in His image,
man is creating God in his image.
There are several interpretations of the Seven Virtues and Sins, and in my mind, the distinctions are unclear. And the dividing line between others are so blurred that I have combined them in this section.
As I tried to piece together and compare the various interpretations, it seemed to me that after Cicero and Plato's four, the others who devised and re-interpreted them, were given a bucket of words with instructions to apply them to a division of seven.
Then, to complicate the picture, there are many other Codes Of Conduct, such as the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, Paul's Faith, Hope and Charity. Add to these standards set forth by the Tao Te Ching, the Talmud and Mishnah, the Dharma, the Qur'an, the Dhamma of Buddha, and the various Hindu dharma laid out for different stratum of society, to name but a few.
In my mind, they all boil down to just 2: Integrity and Character. But Integrity is a huge part of Character. So I would say it actually constitutes 1. Character.
In the Checkerboard and Voices I have dealt with Character in a serious, or more realistcally, a semi-serious manner. So, in this section I have lightened up and 'played' with the subject.
A Description of each Virtue and Vice is given in their respective Intros, but for those who desire a fuller explanation, I have included information borrowed from Wikipedia, which has about as much information as most anyone should need. Click here for Wikipedia, or here for Answers.com, another good source, for further study of the subject.
