Doctrine in dialogue format
"I would be most happy to oblige Mr Busybody. You see, people tend to think of money when they think of counterfeiting. But currency is only a part of the problem. Other items such a clothing and jewelry are also widely counterfeited. The spread of counterfeit goods, or knockoffs as we call them, has become a global problem. We of the CIB estimate that the sale and manufacture of counterfeit goods make up 5 to 7% of World Trade."
"That is indeed an amazing fact Mr Diligent. And may I ask how this effects someone like myself and my listeners?"
"Certainly Mr Busybody. I'm sure you're aware of the fact that if you purchase something, whether it be an item of clothing, an electronic gadget of some kind, or an expensive piece of jewelry, and that item turns out to be a fake, that you are not only out the value of the item, but the warranty that goes with that item as well. We don't normally consider such consequences when we're getting what appears to be an exceptional bargain, until it's too late. For instance Mr Busybody, if you were to purchase a quantity of heart medicine that you need to keep you alive, and that medicine turns out to be merely a placebo or even poison, which happens on occasion, then it could possibly cost you your life as well."
"I see what you mean Mr Diligent. What comes to my mind is what I read on a tract where a church was guaranteeing that anyone who attends their meetings God will bless with eternal life. What do you have to say about such as this Mr Diligent?"
"I am very glad you brought this up Mr Busybody. I suspect you were aware that I am a Christian by the cross I wear on my lapel?"
"Yes Mr Diligent, that and by the tracts that you're handing out to passerby's which happen to be the tract I read."
"Um, yes. Well Mr Busybody, it is definitely true that one must be careful of what one believes in the area of eternal life. There's a lot of counterfeit doctrines out there that if believed and followed will lead to great disappointment at the very least."
"I can see that such would indeed lead to much grief Mr Diligent. But getting back to the matter of counterfeits, is there any particular incident that you have knowledge of that would cause me and my listeners to better understand the dangers of counterfeits?"
"I believe I do Mr Busybody. But Rather than give you an explanation that I'm sure would bore you to tears, I will give you a first hand example of the importance of being alert to forgeries. I just happen to have with me one of the rarest and most valuable coins in the world. It is one I came across in my investigations and I knew I just had to have it. All my income, my savings, and my future earnings is wrapped up in this little baby, but when I'm ready to retire, which happens to be next month, it will all be worth it."
"My goodness Mr Diligent. You mean I am going to witness first hand this amazing item? What a great honor you are bestowing upon me. I consider myself highly blessed."
"Indeed you are Mr Busybody. Handle this gently. Even though it has a protective covering, it can be damaged if mishandled."
"Why Mr Diligent! This I am holding in my sweaty hands, if I'm not mistaken, is an Augustus Saint-Gaudens double eagle twenty dollar gold piece! This is indeed an amazing item I'm seeing first hand."
"Indeed it is Mr Busybody, but please contain your enthusiasm and hold your voice down. I would prefer no one else know, if you know what I mean."
"Sorry Mr Diligent. But if I recall correctly a coin similar to this sold for millions just a short time ago. Am I correct in my understanding Mr Diligent?"
"You are indeed. Of course it was not this coin, but one very similar. If you look closely at this coin Mr Busybody, you will see the unique high relief that characterizes this exceptional coin. That is what gives it its exorbitant value. There were but very few stamped that year, and almost all of them recalled, making it extremely rare. My purpose in showing you this coin is to point out the importance of knowing what is real from what is fake. My being an expert in such matters prevents me from being taken in as would undoubtedly occur with someone without my knowledge and expertise. You can well imagine what would happen if a collector piece such as this, requiring great sacrifice, were to be deemed a counterfeit."
"Ah, yes Mr Diligent. Ah, I ah. A-hem! If I'm not mistaken the year they coined the high relief double eagle was 1907? Am I correct Mr Diligent?"
"You are indeed Mr Busybody. The following year they published an identical coin without the exceedingly high relief. Why do you ask Mr Busybody?"
"Well, ah. Um, ah. You see Mr Diligent. I might be having trouble with my eyesight today, but unless I'm mistaken, the date stamped on this coin is not 1907, but 1908. . . . Mr Diligent? Are you all right? You look green!"
"My future! My life savings! Do you know what this means Mr Busybody?"
"I'm afraid I do Mr Diligent. I read your tract."
"And it means my wife is going to kill me when she finds out I've put us in the poor house when I retire!"
12Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. (2Tim 3:)
15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Mat 7:)
1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. (2Peter 2:)
8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Col 2:)
6As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (2Peter 3:)
