Busybody Reports

FLIMFLAM

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves

"Hi-de-ho everybody. This is Michael Jay Busybody coming at you from the penthouse of Duplicity J. Pettifogger. Mr Pettifogger, thank you very much for allowing me and my listening audience to share a moment of your time in your most elegant penthouse office. It is a luxurious suite indeed."

"Thank you Mr Busybody. And did you see the view from my balcony?"

"I'm afraid I have yet to have that privilege Mr Pettifogger. I will do so posthaste, if you will so allow."

"Certainly Mr Busybody, be my guest."

"Oh my! Is that the Potomac I see Mr Pettifogger? I am amazed. It must be several hundred miles to the Potomac, yet from here it is as if it were close enough to be touched."

"You, although unbeknownst, have stated a fact Mr Busybody. You see, the view is but a hologram image cast upon a screen. It does not in fact exist."

"That is astounding Mr Pettifogger. I would have bet money that what I was seeing is as real as you standing before me."

"And Mr Busybody, what is it you see standing before you?"

"Why, I see a highly successful business man bedecked in silk and tails as if prepared to enter his limousine and be whisk to his awaiting jet that will take him to one of his many mansions throughout this world of ours."

"And you would have not been far from wrong Mr Busybody. I do indeed possess all that you mentioned. However, even though I am the possessor of all you have described, I am not the owner of any that you see me to have."

"I'm afraid Mr Pettifogger, that you have lost me. Could you elaborate for clarification?"

"Most certainly. What you see is but a fabrication, an illusion intended to convince my many investors that I have the means and the wherewithal to properly invest their ample liquidity."

"Say again?"

"Their assets, funds Mr Busybody."

"Oh. Then I take it Mr Pettifogger, that you invest these funds so intrusted to your care with the same financial institutions that you yourself have confided in?"

"Not at all Mr Busybody. You see, in my line of business there is no investments made with the money given to me to invest except in me and my own enterprises. What my investors invest in, is me, and the illusion I present to them."

"But Mr Pettifogger, isn't that illegal? And isn't what you are doing against a moral code that one must abide by if one is to live conscience free?"

"What is illegal Mr Busybody? Illegal is that which a person does and is caught so doing. If one is not apprehended, then there is no illegality. Do you understand Mr Busybody?"

"I'm afraid I don't Mr Pettifogger. But it may be that you and I live by a different code of ethics and that is why I can not grasp your meaning."

"Perhaps so Mr Busybody. Let me explain. If you invest in a bond that matures in seven years, then at the end of seven years you would expect to be awarded with what you had been promised, am I correct?"

"I find what you say acceptable Mr Pettifogger."

"If I sold you a life insurance policy, and when you died, the beneficiary was either not to be found, or was no longer alive, would I be in error to invest the money resting in my care where I pleased Mr Busybody?"

"I am not an expert in the field of high finance Mr Pettifogger, but I can not dispute what you have just alluded to."

"Again, following that same reasoning, if I was to sell you a policy that stated you would receive great wealth and happiness after you die, and you invested your funds, your hopes and your dreams in what I have told you, could I be said to have committed a criminal act before you, the testator died and discovered that what you had invested in was a fantasy? What are your thoughts on this line of reasoning Mr Busybody?"

"I must say Mr Pettifogger, you have indeed caused me to wonder about many things related to what you have just told me. I'm afraid I have no answer to the question you posed, but I do feel for those who have invested their trust and their confidence in you. And I find Mr Pettifogger, that there is a term for what you do for a living, but that term seems to escape me for the present."

"Perhaps you are thinking of the word cunning Mr Busybody?"

"No Mr Pettifogger, not cunning."

"Intuitive perhaps Mr Busybody?"

"No again Mr Pettifogger, not intuitive."

"I know Mr Busybody, you are thinking I am ingenious and resourceful."

"Once again no Mr Pettifogger. But give me time and it will come to me what you might be called."

15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Mat 7:)

24Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 25And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. 26These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (1John 2:)

21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (Mat 7:)

1Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. (John 10:)

10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. (John 10:)
