As it seems to me this reasoning flies in the face of logic. I wonder if you will clarify for us how you came to this conclusion, and how you propose one carry out such a plan."
"Glad to do it Mr Busybody. I'm sure you're familiar with the concept of Name It And Claim it. Using this principle there is nothing a person can't have for themself if they possess the confidence to ask for it and to pursue it."
"Yes Mr deConfidence, I have heard of that principle. However, I have never been able to reconcile that concept with how I might land gently if I jump out of an airplane and my parachute doesn't open."
"Nothing Mr Busybody, is beyond one's capabilities if one only believes hard enough. It's in the Bible."
"I take it then Mr deConfidence, that you are a Christian?"
"Yes indeed I am Mr Busybody. I am a strong believer in the Word of God and in the Christian concepts, especially when those concepts involve one's Eternal Security."
"Would you mind Mr deConfidence, explaining that concept of Eternal Security for me and those of my listeners unfamiliar with such a concept?"
"I would love to Mr Busybody. You see, everyone who has been baptized and believes in Jesus is given total assurance that they will go to Heaven, and nothing can cause them to lose that Salvation. It's a principle clearly spelled out in Scripture."
"Well, I must say Mr deConfidence, that what you say is indeed reassuring. I assume then, by what you have told me, that everyone, no matter who they are, or what their past might have been, is given this complete assurance?"
"Absolutely so Mr. Busybody. There can be no doubts or exceptions. Anyone who has been baptized, and who wholeheartedly believes will be saved. Nothing can alter this doctrine."
"I find your confidence very comforting Mr deConfidence. I have a friend who has been baptized. He is a Hindu, a Sikh who has taken Amrit. Might I inform him that he has this Eternal Salvation you so generously offer? Although he is a Hindu, he believes that Jesus was a great teacher."
"No Mr Busybody. A Hindu cannot receive this assurance. He must be baptized into the Christian faith."
"Oh, I see. Well then Mr deConfidence, I have a Mormon friend. He surely would fit this category, would he not?"
"Um, no Mr Busybody. Not a Mormon either. You see, this confidence only applies to those baptized into a traditional Christian church, not one that is considered a cult."
"Oh, I see. Then you mean a Catholic Mr deConfidence, since there is surely no other church more traditional than the Catholic church."
"No Mr Busybody, not the Catholic church. I see you're having a difficult time grasping the full meaning of what I am saying. It's really a very simple principle and one fully spelled out in the Gospels. I don't know why you're having such a difficult time understanding it."
"I'm glad you told me that it is so simple. Mr deConfidence, because otherwise I wouldn't have known. Allow me to make yet another attempt to understand this simple concept. As I see it then, what you're saying is that only Christians who belong to the traditional churches can be saved by the process of baptism. I assume then that you mean something like the Quakers Mr deConfidence?"
"No, not the Quakers."
"No again Mr Busybody. Full immersion only."
"Jesus' name only?"
"Again no. It must be the entire Trinity."
"I must say Mr deConfidence, I am losing confidence in the parachute you have offered me. I can see myself splattered upon the ground already. If I may ask then sir, who it is that can have this full confidence in Salvation you so freely offer?"
"Certainly you may Mr Busybody. As I said in the beginning, anybody who has the faith to believe."
