Busybody Reports

THE DABBLER

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

"Hi-de-ho everybody. This is Michael A. Jay Busybody in the workshop of Herealittle Therealittle Dabbler. Thank you for inviting me into your shop Mr Herealittle Dabbler."

"Just call me H.T. Everybody does. Glad to have you here Mr Michael A. Jay Busybody. I always enjoy showing off my many projects and interests. I suppose that's a common thing and that everybody does it."

"Just call me A. Busybody, everybody does. And yes Mr Dabbler, I suppose everybody does like to show off their interests. And if I might say so Mr. Dabbler, it appears that you do indeed have many interests."

"That I do Mr Busybody. It's been this way all my life. I have at least five different projects all going at the same time. And on occasion I actually finish one or two of the more simple ones. But I always dream of completing them all. My biggest problem is finding space to store all my unfinished projects, as well as the tools and equipment needed to work on each of them."

"You are a dabbler then I take it Mr Dabbler?"

"Yes in deed Mr Busybody. I dabble in this, then I dabble in that. I guess you could call me king of the dabblers if you wanted to."

"I'll keep that in mind if the occasion ever arises that I need a king dabbler to crown."

"Please do Mr Busybody."

"I see Mr Dabbler, that you have a partially completed leather cover that apparently is intended for a Bible since it says 'Bib' on it. Are you a religious man Mr Dabbler?"

"Yes I am Mr Busybody. That is one of my strongest interests in fact. I would say that if there was one particular thing I have the most interest in, it would be religion."

"I take it then, since you have this fine cover with the word 'Bib' on it that you are a Christian?"

"You have that exactly right Mr Busybody. I've been a Christian since birth, baptized and everything that goes with it. I'm up an' at 'm, waiting for that cloud to whisk me up to Glory land."

"I suspect then, Mr Dabbler, that you are very familiar with the Bible. Which version of the Bible do you study from?"

"Well, I can't really say that I'm all that familiar with the Bible Mr Busybody, being a dabbler as I am. But there's a lot I know about religion, yes in deed. For instance I'm well up on the Koran, the Tao De Ching, Zen Buddhism and things like that. A dabbler must dabble Mr Busybody, or else he's not a true dabbler, if you know what I mean."

"I believe I do Mr Dabbler. But unless I'm mistaken, it appears that you dabble in everything except that in which you say you believe. What I mean is, as a Christian, wouldn't you say it would be expected that you would dabble more in the things of the Bible then in other religions? If you hadn't told me otherwise Mr Dabbler, I would have assumed you to be a Hindu or a Buddhist rather than a Christian."

"Oh no Mr Busybody. I am a Christian through and through. It's just that I like to explore other areas. And when you get right down to it, aren't all the religions saying the same thing? They all say to be a good person. Well, I think I'm a good person. I learn a lot about being a good person from these other books is all. And they Mr Busybody are easier to understand than the Bible, if you know what I mean."

"I must confess that I do Mr Dabbler. The Bible is hard to understand, indeed it is. I suppose that's where we're lucky to have all the wise instructors such as the preachers to explain it to us, even if they do all say different things."

"Very true Mr Busybody. Very true indeed."

"Earlier, if I heard you correctly, you said you're waiting for a cloud to come and pick you up to whisk you to Glory Land. Could you elaborate on this a little for my listening audience who might not understand what you're referring to? And may I ask which of the books you've read that tells you of such an occurrence?"

"Why certainly Mr Busybody. And it's in the Bible, just as plain as can be. All good Christians who have turned their lives over to the Lord are assured of Heaven and the awaiting arms of God. I'm sure Mr Busybody, that even one as unaware of the Bible as yourself must be aware of this fact. It's known by everybody and it's taught in all the greatest books and movies of this past decade or so. Don't you watch the movies Mr Busybody?"

"Well, yes, I watch the movies Mr Dabbler, but I don't necessarily believe the movies I see. Perhaps if you pointed out the passages of Scripture where this concept is located it would help us who are not as enlightened as you are to better understand Mr Dabbler. I see a dusty Bible here next to the trash can. Let me get it for you."

"Oh yes, I wondered where it was. I forgot where I put it. I'm glad you found it because it's the only one I have. Belonged to my dear departed mother, that's why I keep it around, you know, sentimental value and all."

"Yes. I see. Here's the Bible Mr Dabbler. I've wiped off the sawdust and the cobwebs for you. Show us the verses if you please."

"Well, a-hem! It's like I told you Mr Busybody. I'm not that up on the Bible. In fact to tell you the truth I don't know one book from another. But I know it's there, yes in deed I do. I've heard my pastor preach about it lots of times. Yes sir. Many times indeed."

"You attend church then do you Mr Dabbler?"

"Well, yes, that is when there's not a game on the tube or the weather turns too bad for the golf course. But don't let appearances deceive you Mr Busybody, I know what I'm talking about. Yes in deedee I do."

"Yes Mr Dabbler, I'll follow your advise and do my best to not be deceived."

6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:)

33But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. 34And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. 36For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:)
