Busybody Reports

old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

"Hi-de-ho again everybody. This is Michael Jay Busybody with you in the flood ravaged area of Anywhere USA. I have here with me Mrs Hi Lee Confused. It appears that Mrs Confused has been one of the hardest hit victims of the recent flood and has lost everything she owned in the flood. I was wondering, Mrs Confused if you wouldn't mind saying a few words to my listening audience in regards to your feelings at this time."

"Yes I would. I would like to ask just one thing. Why Me!!"

"I must say that is a reasonable question to ask Mrs Confused. But may I ask you a question in return? When you had your mansion built here in Anywhere Gullywash, weren't you aware that the area has a reputation of being a high flood risk and that the probability was that you would lose your home and everything with it?"

"Well certainly I was told that. But that's for other people, the commoners. It's not supposed to happen to me too!"

"I don't understand Mrs Confused. Why did you think you would be exempt from what is expected by everybody else?"

"That's simple Mr. Busybody, I am a Christian, and things like this aren't supposed to happen to Christian people."

"But how does your being a Christian prevent you from experiencing what everybody else must experience? That is a bit confusing to me Mrs Confused."

"Of course you're confused Mr.Busybody. That's because you don't belong to my church and understand the ways of the Lord as I do. If you did, then it would be obvious why such a thing as this couldn't possibly happen to someone like me."

"That might well be so Mrs Confused, but in spite of that logic, this did happen to you. Under such circumstances, what does your church teach might be a cause for such a breach of doctrine?"

"I don't know. But I'm certainly going to find out just as soon as I see that pastor of mine. I was guaranteed when I signed on that I would be above such folly as this. Someone must have made a mistake somewhere, and I'm going to find out who it was and hold them liable for my loss. I'm supposed to be above such things as this."

"Again Mrs Confused, might I say this? I'm sure I'm not up on the Bible as you apparently are, but doesn't the Bible teach that Christians are to live simply, being more concerned with others, and to not worry about building mansions in this life? Isn't that the example Jesus, the Apostles and the Martyrs of old gave to the Church? Correct me if I am wrong, like I said, I don't know much about being a Christian. But couldn't this be a fresh beginning to you that will allow you to begin in a new, and maybe more productive direction?"

"Well of course the Bible teaches something like that. And yes the people you mentioned did live just such a life I suppose. But they did all that so I could live in peace and comfort. It was different for them, just like it's different for all these other commoners who don't know better and who don't know what my church teaches. All I know is it wasn't supposed to happen to me!"

"I think I understand now Mrs Confused. I didn't realize that there were two kinds of Christianity, yours and everybody else's. It just seems as if I learn something new every day."

"Well, I'm glad you finally got it straight Mr Busybody. And if there's anything else you want to know about the Bible, just come to my church and you'll get it straight from the horse's mouth."

"Yes, a-hem. Or at least I suspect I'll get it from an animal similar to a horse."

17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. (2Cor 5:)

3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Heb 18:)

12But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; . . . . 13Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings . . . .15Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (2Peter 2:)
