Life with the Philistines

CHANGING TIMES

Having their conscience seared as with a hot iron.

Hello all you folks out there in radio land. This is your announcer Herald Promulgate bringing you another adventure of Life with the Philistines, that normal family everybody loves to imitate. Let's look in on the Philistines and see what they're up to today, shall we?

In today's episode we find Mrs Philistine greeting an old friend who's come to visit:

"Well, Harriet. How nice to see you. George! Guess who's here. It's Harriet!"

"Yeah, hi Harriet. Now pipe down you two, the program's back on."

"We're right in the middle of one of our favorite programs. You know how it is."

"Not really Marge. You see in the past ten years since I last saw you...."

"You'll have to excuse us Harriet, the program's on. Come, have a seat and watch. You'll like this program."

"Well, ok I guess. It's been a long time since I've watched any TV. I guess things haven't really changed all that much."

"No, I guess not. Watch. This is funny. These guys say the weirdest things. Listen."

"Did I see what I thought I saw Marge? Are those men, are they...?"

"Yeah, they're a gay couple. Weird isn't it. Now listen."

"Marge, are they saying what I think they're saying? Can they talk like that on television?"

"Yeah. Anything goes. You know how it is. Times are changing. Did you hear that George? Isn't it a riot?"

"Marge, do you know you're laughing at things that not long ago you'd be appalled? Is this what you consider entertainment these days?"

"Yeah, there's nothing much on TV anymore. So you got to take them as they give them. You know how it is."

"Marge, do you realize that the tender ears of your small children are watching this... stuff and are being influenced by it?"

"Now Harriet, don't be a stuffed shirt. The kids don't know what's going on. They're too young to understand this stuff."

"No we're not Mom. We learned this in third grade. What they said is...."

"Quiet Billy. You don't know what you're talking about. Sit down on the floor and amuse your little brother."

"Marge, I really think you should...."

"Quiet Harriet, you're interrupting our family quality time. There'll be lots of time for gabbing after the programs are over."

"Yes, the programs. Well Marge, George, it's been good to see you. I think I'll be going now."

"What? Oh yeah. It's been nice to see you Harriet. You must stop by again sometime. But don't stay away so long. Time has a way of getting away from you, you know. Sorry about not showing you to the door, but you know how it is."

"Yes, I'm beginning to see how it is. Bye George, Marge."

"Huh? Oh yeah. Bye Harriet."

1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2Tim 3:)

19While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (2Peter 2:)

1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Rom 12:)

11Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (Heb 5:)
