Doctrine in dialogue format
13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man (1Cor 10:)
Meet George and Martha Philistine. The Philistines are your typical middle class American family; middle aged, average number of children, common laborer and housewife, stereotypical in-laws and extended family, and, oh, never mind. These and more you'll be meeting from time to time. and from story to story.
The Philistines live in a suburban tract home and drive midrange, mid-size automobiles. They have a TV blaring in each room, and a computer that everyone must use, and usually at the same time. Their interests are sports, soaps and cartoons, depending on which member of the family you're talking to at the moment.
The Philistines attend a local church, when other of life's events do not hinder them, such as a nice, sunny day or a cold and rainy day. The Spiritual life of the Philistines are those of the common man, perhaps not unlike your own.
George and Martha are, as most of us, trying to learn who they are and where they fit in this big wide world, while at the same time raising a family who are themselves in the process of finding out what their place is in this ball of mud called earth.
The Philistines are your neighbors, your coworkers, your family; and just very possibly you yourself at one time or another during your own search for personal identity.
Sometimes the experiences of the Philistines are humorous, sometimes they're tragic. But whatever else they may be, they're likely to cause a twinge or two because they will be all too real to life, your life, and the lives of those you know and love..
This said, let us proceed and experience a day in the life of the Philistines
