Meet the Plebes

Introduction

Do ye look on things after the outward appearance?

See that shanty on the corner, near the railroad tracks? The one with a collection of rusted automobiles and lead pipes. Yes, that's the one. There lives Lanslo and Honeysuckle Plebe, the neighborhood handyman. Let's go meet the Plebes, shall we?

Just down the street and across the tracks from Highborn Manor lives a family of, well, not well-to-do folks. And if you ask them, they will tell you they are just that - folks.

Lanslo and Honeysuckle are a childless couple who keep to themselves and live a simple, relatively carefree life. And speaking of relatives, they have theirs. On occasion the Plebes are visited by their cousins from the poor side of the family. There's the father, Ignominy Dreggs, better known as Iggy, and his wife Odium, and their three small but active children: Brickbat, Obloquy and daughter Nauseam. Oh, and there's also their dog Smutch

If you have difficulty remembering or pronouncing their names, fear not, everyone does.

Anyone who is familiar at all with my writing is aware that I like to play with words. Meet the Plebes is certainly no exception. If you would like to learn more about this, shall I say, exceptional, family, just look their names up in the dictionary and I'm sure you will learn all you'll ever care to know about the Dreggs family.

1My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; 3And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: 4Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? 5Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 6But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? 7Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? (James 2:)
