From the Pastor's Pulpit

SIN

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Candor Dispassion and I will be your moderator for this session of the Pastor's Pulpit. Today we have as guest Pastor Armando Archaic who has recently published his book entitled Freedom from Sin. Pastor Archaic, thank you for being our guest tonight."

"My pleasure to be here Mr Dispassion."

"I am led to understand Pastor Archaic that your book is doing very well for having just been released to the public. Please tell me and my listening audience a little about your book, and what prompted you to write on the subject of sin."

"Thank you Mr Dispassion, I would be happy to tell you about my book. Of course I'm sure you're aware by the title that my book is about sin. I have included in my book a short history on the subject of sin, and I've given many quotes by several experts on the subject of sin, including my own."

"And, Pastor Archaic, in expressing your opinion on the subject of sin, are you for or against it?"

"You are an amusing fellow Mr Dispassion."

"Thank you Pastor Archaic. I would like to think so."

"Sin, as you know Mr Dispassion, began in the Garden of Eden when the devil tempted Adam and Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit. Then, having been cast out of the garden, they were to bear the guilt and the consequences of sin, which is death and separation from their Creator. And because we are the children of those so condemned, we too have inherited their burden of sin and its consequences, that is, death."

"What you have presented so far is stereotypical of the Christian view of sin Pastor Archaic. What is there about your book that makes it unique and one that would cause me and my listening audience to spend our money and our time on what you have to offer?"

"To tell you the truth Mr Dispassion, it's like Solomon said in his proverbs, there is nothing new under the sun. What is now, has gone before. It's not in the fact that I have anything new to say, but rather it's in the way that I have presented what has already been written many times. Writing something new, that is writing or saying something new and unaccepted is a sure-fire way of being considered an outcast and a heretic. My book may have appealed to a few oddball seekers of the illicit had I digressed from the acceptable, but it certainly would have never made the top of the charts as it has done."

"And I assume Pastor Archaic that this is your philosophy when it comes to your preaching as well, that is you preach the acceptable to your congregation and do not stray into the unacceptable?"

"Of course Mr Dispassion. If I was to veer from the hardline view of my denomination's doctrine I would be cast out of the pulpit before I could finish my sermon. Denominations are held together by uniformity of preaching. Latitude has no place behind the pulpit."

"I see. Well Pastor Archaic, back to the question of sin, you say we are all under the burden of sin and must pay for our own sin as well as the sins of our forebearers. From what you have stated thus far we have nothing to look forward to but a cold grave. Do you offer any hope for us beyond this in your book?"

"Yes indeed Mr Dispassion. Our hope lies in the death of Jesus Christ who died to wash away all sin. Because Jesus offered Himself up to the cross, all sin, even the sins of Adam and Eve, are done away with forever. The sin issue no longer exists Mr Dispassion. Jesus paid it all."

"That is very encouraging Pastor Archaic. Jesus paid for all sin. I take it then that sin no longer exists. That means, as I understand what you've said, that the consequences of sin no longer exists. So then I no longer have to be concerned about death. but rather I can look forward to living forever in Heaven without the fear of having to endure hell. Am I hearing you correctly Pastor Archaic?"

"That is correct Mr Dispassion. As long as you have fulfilled the required ordinances as laid down by my church you are assured eternal life that can not be taken from you regardless of what you do thereafter because sin no longer exists to you."

"I want to make sure I'm hearing you correctly Pastor Archaic. You're telling me that if I become a Christian, according to the rules your denomination has established, then I can feel certain of eternal life even should I not change my lifestyle at all, and even should I become more what is considered sinful if sin still existed. Is this what you're saying Pastor Archaic?"

"That is correct Mr Dispassion. For the Christian sin no longer exists. And because the Christian has received the seal of the Holy Spirit at baptism, he or she can never lose their salvation and God has to take them to Heaven regardless of what they do. Once we are in the hands of the Almighty it is up to Him to mold us into the perfection He expects of us. We lose that choice, that is, we can not fail to be accepted in to the arms of our Creator."

"I find this interesting Pastor Archaic. And the words of the Modern Liberal churches ring in my ear as you speak. Many Modern churches also preach the riddance of sin because of the death of Jesus. They too state that sin no longer exists. And because sin no longer is an issue, everyone will be accepted into Heaven, even Satan and his unholy angels and demons. Since you are preaching the same thing the Modernists are Pastor Archaic, why would a person bother to attend your church or read your book since you have essentially nullified the existence of God, or at least His influence on the lives of mankind today?"

"Now wait a minute Mr Dispassion. You're twisting my words around. I said that if a person is under the blood, that is they have followed the established ordinances, then and only then will they fall into the category of saved."

"Yes Pastor Archaic, that is what you said. And I heard you clearly. I also heard you clearly state that Jesus died for all sin. All, Pastor Archaic, means all in my dictionary. That means sin no longer exists, which is precisely what you said. If no sin exists, that means the absence of following your ordinances would not be considered a sin. This leaves nothing to be done, just as the Modernists are saying. You know Pastor Archaic, it appears to me that your doctrine, that is your church having departed the absolute following of the laws given to Moses and as was followed for the many centuries before the Protestant rebellion, has left you standing right at the edge of a steep precipice. It only took the Modernists and the Humanists to take that very last step into the abyes you brought them to. I suspect Pastor Archaic, that if it hadn't been for the Protestant reformation and the popularity of the Protestant views that the Humanist concept would have never gained the popularity it has. I should think the Humanists should give you much more credit than they do."

"Hold on Mr Dispassion. You're way out of line. Let me explain myself."

"I would love to Pastor Archaic, but we've run out of time. And besides, you've had over five hundred years to explain yourself, and all you've done is to move farther into the Humanistic view to reach the point you are at now. And according to what I see on the news, each day another church dips its bucket deeper into the world's well of immorality. I'm afraid if you have any more time given to you that Christianity as we know it today will no longer exist. And with that. Thank you again for joining us Pastor Archaic. This is Candor Dispassion bidding you all a good night, and hoping you will tune in to the Pastor's Pulpit next week."
