Doctrine in dialogue format
From the Pastor's Pulpit
"You are correct Mr Dispassion. I find in the Scriptures a multitude of verses that make it perfectly clear that a person will not be allowed into their eternal destination unless they fulfill the letter of the law to the best of their ability."
"Thank you Pastor Proletariat. And taking the opposite view we have with us Pastor Bourgeois who is of the opinion that works are contrary to the design of salvation. Am I correct in this understanding Pastor Bourgeois?"
"Indeed you are. Mr Dispassion. Works of any kind are an abomination to the Lord and will be punished severely since works are an indication that God's work on the cross was not sufficient sacrifice to appease the Father."
"Then, gentlemen, am I to understand that according to your doctrine that anyone who does not agree with and follow your teaching will be doomed to hell for eternity?"
"Absolutely Mr Dispassion. There can be no compromising the Word of the Lord."
"In this I totally agree with Pastor Bourgeois. However, I must restate my position that without great effort on our part we will find our names erased from the book of life."
"In order to establish a foundation for understanding your argument, am I to understand that both of you gentlemen have acquired your doctrine from the same book, that is the King James version?"
"There is no other book by which the truth may be known Mr Dispassion."
"I concur with Pastor Bourgeois in this matter."
"Considering that you both have read in depth the very same book, and you have somehow come up with completely antithetic conclusions, is it possible that you might both be right?"
"Not a chance in the world Mr Dispassion. There is no other way by which a person may be saved but by working out their own salvation."
"Grace without works is without doubt the only way by which salvation may be had."
"Then since you are so sure that yours and your doctrine alone is the correct one gentlemen, is it safe for me to assume that those who follow either one or the other of you are doomed to hell for eternity? By this I mean, the only result I can see from your static view is that either one or the other of you is leading your faithful sheep to the slaughter house, and neither of you will know which of you it is who is the false teacher until it is too late to correct your stance. Am I correct in my understanding gentlemen?"
1Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. 2For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. 3Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. 4Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. 5One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. (Rom 14:)
