Penelope Potter Ss.T

7the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, (Mat 13:)

"Good morning children."

"Is everyone ready to begin their Sunday School lesson for today?"

"Very good. Then we will begin. Today's lesson is about fishing and bringing the unsaved into the Kingdom of God. Does any of you...? Yes Billy?"

"I know all about fishing Miss Potter. My daddy and I go fishing all the time."

"Very good Billy, yes Dale?"

"Billy, can I go fishing with you sometime? I never get to go fishing because my daddy's always busy and my mother doesn't know how to fish. Can I go with you?"

"Maybe, I'll have to ask my daddy. He...."

"You boys can work out your fishing expeditions later. Let's get back to our lesson for today. Does anyone have any idea what Jesus meant when He said the Kingdom of Heaven is like fishing?"

"I think I know Miss Potter. I think He meant that it's going to be fun in Heaven and we'll have lots of fish to eat. That's what I think anyway because I like to fish and I like to eat fish."

"Did Jesus ever say Heaven is like a chicken farm Miss Portia? I like chicken better than fish, especially the drumsticks."

"I really don't think Jesus was referring to eating fish, or even catching fish when He said the Kingdom of Heaven is like fishing. I'm certain He meant.... Yes Timmy? What do you think Jesus meant when He said the Kingdom of Heaven is like fishing?"

"I goed out on a boat with my Uncle David one time, and we caught a whole bunch of fish because he used a kind of hairnet kind of thing to catch them. We didn't use poles like me and my big brother do. Did Jesus use a net thing to catch His fish for Heaven?"

"Yes Timmy, Jesus uses a net as an example of catching fish. But it's not fish Jesus is concerned with. He just used fishing as an example so we would understand what He was trying to tell us. He... Yes Wanda?"

"Do you mean like a parasol Miss Potter? My mother said Jesus used a parasol sometimes to tell us what He wants us to know."

"I think you mean a parable Wanda. Yes, Jesus used parables to tell us what He wants us to know and understand. Parables are little stories that...."

"You mean like Goldilocks and the three bears Miss Potter? My mother said we should learn to not eat soup if we ever go into a bear's house because they can get real mad sometimes."

"Yes Betty, that is kind of what I am talking about. Jesus said when we, the Church, bring people into the Church it's like bringing them into the Kingdom of Heaven. Does anyone know what happens with fish when they're brought into the boat? Yes Timmy?"

"They get divided Miss Potter. My Uncle David keeped the good fish and the bad fish he didn't keep. He only likes the good fish, not the icky stuff that gets caught in his net too."

"And what does your uncle do with the fish he doesn't keep Timmy? Does he throw them back into the water?"

"No Miss Potter. My Uncle David telled me the bad fish makes the water bad so he doesn't throw them back in the water."

"Your uncle doesn't throw them back? Then what does you uncle do with the fish he doesn't want to keep Timmy?"

"He throwed them in the fire and burns them up Miss Potter, that's what he does with the bad fish."

7Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. 49So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 51Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. 52Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. (Mat 13:)

36Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 37He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 38The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Mat 13:)
