Penelope Potter Ss.T

FULL VESSEL

and a little child shall lead them. (Isaiah 11:)

"Good morning children."

"GOOD MORNING MISS POTTER!"

"Is everyone ready to begin their Sunday School lesson for today?"

"YES, MISS POTTER!"

"Very good. Then we will begin. Today's lesson is about filling our vessel with the Holy Spirit. Can any of you children tell me what we need to do in order for our vessel to be filled with the Spirit of God?"

"Miss Potter, what is a vessel?"

"That's a good question Timmy. A vessel is something we use to carry or hold something in. A bucket or a jar or a cooking pot is a vessel. Do you understand now what a vessel is Timmy?"

"Kinda I do Miss Potter. But why does God want to get in a bucket? Is that where we keep God? I don't got no bucket to carry God in if we do."

"No Timmy, we don't keep God in a bucket. We keep Him in our heart, in our person. We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit where the Spirit of God lives. Because God lives in us we are called a vessel of the Lord. Do you understand this Timmy, or is it still over your head?"

"Miss Potter?"

"Yes Becky? Do you have a question you would like to ask about vessels?"

"Yes Miss Potter. You told Timmy that we're like a bucket that God lives in. And then you said something flew over his head. I'm confused. What flew over Timmy's head, and why are we buckets?"

"What I meant by something being over Timmy's head is that what I said might be too complicated for him to understand. And I see this topic might be too much for all of you at this time. I didn't mean we are buckets, but rather we are like flower vases that God has made out of clay in which to plant a seed of a beautiful flower that is the Holy Spirit. But in order for God to make us into the vase, the flower pot He intended for us to be we have to be soft and pliable, and not be hard and resistant to the hands of the potter. Do you understand now what I'm telling you Becky?"

"No Miss Potter, I don't think so."

"Miss Potter?"

"Yes Timmy, do you understand what I'm trying to tell you?"

"No Miss Potter, some of it I don't understand."

"What is it you don't understand Timmy?"

"I think I understand everything except what you said Miss Potter. I don't understand any of that."

"Does any of you children understand what I'm telling you? Raise your hand if you don't understand."

"I think I understand Miss Potter."

"Good for you Bobby. Can you explain to the other children what you understand?"

"Well Miss Potter, I don't know if this is what you were saying because I didn't understand any of what you said. But you started by asking us what we need to do so God can live in us. That part I think I understand ok, but the bucket thing I don't understand. If I want God to live in me I think what I got to do is to move out my things like my toys and my TV shows and stuff like that. I don't think God can live in me if I take up all the room with me and my things. I have to let God keep His toys and His things in me if I want Him to stay there. Buckets and flower pots I don't know about. B'sides I don't got none of those things if God wants to live in them. Did I get it right Miss Potter?"

"Yes Bobby, I do believe you understand what I am trying to say. And I... Yes Betty? Do you have a question for me?"

"No Miss Potter. I was just going to say that maybe us kids can 'splain things to kids better than grown up people. What Bobby said I understand, but what you said goed over my head like you told Timmy and I didn't get none of it. Can Bobby teach us about the vessel thing today? I think maybe he knows better than grown ups what God likes to live in."

1At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Mat 18:)

5And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. 6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (Isaiah 11:)
