Penelope Potter Ss.T

Lord, teach us to pray..

"Good morning children."

"Is everyone ready to begin their Sunday School lesson for today?"

"Very good. Then we will begin. Today's lesson is about...."

"Miss Potter? Can I tell you something?"

"It's not polite to interrupt people when they're talking Georgia. Ok, what is it you want to tell me?"

"I didn't mean to inter'prupt you Miss Potter. I just wanted to tell you something."

"And what is it you want to tell me Georgia? Do you have to use the bathroom again?"

"No Miss Potter. I just wanted to tell you about God's name."

"Yes Georgia? What is it you want to say about God's name?"

"I want to know what God's name is. I mean, what does God call His self? There was some men who came to our house yesterday and said it's important we call God by His real name, but I can't remember what they said His name is. I don't want to get in trouble for calling God the wrong name."

"I think you're referring to what some people believe God's name is. Many call Him Jehovah. Is that the name you were looking for Georgia?"

"I think so. But they said it different. They said it's Ya..., Ya.... Ya something or other."

"Yes Georgia, some call Him Ya-way. They're both saying the same thing. It's just different ways of saying the same thing about the very same Person."

"I don't want to make God mad at me. But I can't say His name right like you can. Will God be mad if I call Him something else?"

"You needn't concern yourself with God's name Georgia. God is happy when you pray to Him, regardless of what you call Him."

"Miss Potter? If I call my daddy the wrong thing he gets mad at me. Maybe we should call God what He wants to be called like Georgia said so He don't shoot us with lightening or stuff. I just call Him God. Is that God's name, God?"

"Not really Bobby. But that's what everyone calls Him. As I think about it I don't recall ever reading anywhere in the Bible where God was called anything but God. I might have missed something but...."

"Miss Potter, Miss Potter!"

"Yes Jerry? What is it?"

"I think I know how to find out what God's name is."

"You do? And how is that Jerry?"

"Well, you said Jesus is the Son of God. I mean, God is Jesus' Father. So would Jesus know what God's name is? What did Jesus call God?"

35And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. (Mark 14:)

14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (Rom 8:)

4But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. (Gal 4:)
