MISPLACED RESPECT

If then I be a father, where is mine honour?

"Good morning children."

"GOOD MORNING MISS POTTER!"

"Is everyone ready to begin their Sunday School lesson for today?"

"YES MISS POTTER!"

"Very good. Then we will begin. Today's lesson is about respect. Can anyone tell me what respect means? Yes Timmy, I see you have your hand up."

"I think I know Miss Potter. Restect is when you say thank you and please, things like that kinda'."

"Yes, that has a lot to do with respect. Can anyone else tell me something about respect?"

"I think I can Miss Potter. It's kinda like when we hold the door for old people. I think old people can't hold the door like us kids and that's why we gotta do it for them."

"Holding the door for people is one form of respect. But can you think of a way you can show respect for some thing rather than some one? Bobby, how about you? Are you listening to what I'm saying?"

"Huh? Was you talking to me Miss Potter? I was playing with this game and I didn't hear what you said."

"What you're doing Bobby is showing a lack of respect. And what are you doing with that game? It looks like you're treating it rather roughly. Aren't you afraid you'll break it?"

"Naw, I'm not scared of breaking it. I borrowed it from Freddy. I didn't buy it so I'm not afraid of breaking it."

6A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name.(Mal 1:)

41There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 42And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? 43Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. (Luke 7:)

44Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. 45Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. (Mat 13:)

26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. (Luke 14:)
