The Parish

Introduction

all that believed were together, and had all things common

A parish is a portion of a community under the headship of a parish priest or pastor. In times past such parishes would not only have a religious aspect, but they would also have a civil function as well. Parishes are usually thought of as being strictly of a Catholic nature. But this is not so. The denominations that were established during the Reformation retained many of the characteristics of the body they broke from. Parishes were just one of these characteristics. If I were writing from an educational point of view, that is, an historical, I would have to be accurate in my depiction of a parish. But that is not my purpose. Instead I use the concept of a parish, and so name that concept, with the understanding that there is no denomination or form represented here. I want this to be your story, that is, a story that you can easily place yourself and your family and neighbors into. My hope is that you will be able to draw out concepts and ideas that might bring a new awareness to you, and perhaps even change your life to the better.

My intention with this series is to illustrate in story form many of the instructions given to us in the Bible. When we're able to see what we've been told it often makes it clearer in out mind, therefore easier to understand the concept being expressed.

In every community, regardless of the size, there are a variety of personalities and attitudes. Since it is human nature to judge others according to what we see, and to try and make our own life as comfortable as we can, these personalities often cross to one degree or another. The Parish is certainly no different. And it's in those conflicts that stories are made.

Some of the stories, as it is in life, will be humorous. Some will be on the tragic side. But regardless of the nature of the story, all will have within them a moral or a lesson to be learned.

Please, won't you join me on my venture through The Parish.

44And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. (Acts 2:)
