The Parsonage

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Have you ever wondered what the life of a minister is like? Well, wonder no longer, because it's time for The Parsonage where you will experience a day in the life of Reverend Leopold and his wife Ermintrude Bach, patriarch of the perish.

In today's episode we find Pastor Leo greeting fellow pastor Ottoman Hassock. Listen:

"Well Leo, I see you beat me here. Did you order for me?"

"No, not this time. You said you weren't sure could make it this week, remember?"

"Oh yes, I did. Well, I got through sooner than I expected. You should have been there Leo. I delivered quite a message. It was received well, I tell you."

"Really Otto? I'm sorry I missed it. What was your message about? fill me in."

"I spoke on the importance of practicing what you preach. This is true of everyone of course, but we ministers must be exceptionally aware of our actions, that our walk fits our talk. Don't you think so Leo?"

"Of course Otto. And I must say, if there is anyone suited to make such a speech, it is you."

"Wait a minute Leo. Did I hear you right? Are you saying that I walk my talk? That I practice what I preach? Is that what you're saying?"

"Of course Otto. What's so surprising about that?"

"This is Ottoman Hassock you're talking to Leo. You never give me compliments. Since we were kids you always took the opposite side from the one I took. And you're telling me I do what I preach? That's one for the books, I tell you."

"Now Otto, you know perfectly well that I always speak my mind and I call them as I see them. I believe in giving credit where credit is due. And today I believe you deserve just such a credit."

"Let me sit down and get over the shock. Leopold Bach complimenting Ottoman Hassock. No one will ever believe it. I wish I had a tape recorder so I could record this event. Or better yet a video camera because no one would ever believe a tape."

"I don't think you would want to do that Otto. I really don't."

"Why not Leo?"

"Because I don't think you understand what I'm saying is why not Otto."

"What's to understand Leo? You said I practice what I preach. That's high praise coming from you. Isn't that what you said?"

"Yes Otto. You preach a do-nothing doctrine, and that's exactly what you do. Nothing."

1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. (Gal 6:)

2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. (2Tim 4:)
